newlywed,
Re the slow cooker - you have to have a minimum amount of water in there, because essentially the food is cooked in steam. Very little of the steam escapes because a seal forms itself around the edge of the lid. Therefore unless you left it unattended for days and days it cannot burn dry. If you are nervous could you perhaps borrow one from someone and try it out on a day when you are in?0 -

I don't see the point of having a sandwich toaster if you have a grill
The sandwich toaster was a wedding present!!As we had it, I just never thought of doing toasties on the grill to be honest!!

We've been given 2 sandwich toasters as presents since we bought the grill "because we know you like your kitchen gadgets and you don't have one of these"
I gave them both away lol. Wonder if I'll get another one for Christmas  :rotfl:Bulletproof0 -
newlywed wrote:I just have thing about leaving anything on all day while I'm at work. Wouldn't leave the cooker on or the iron, so how safe is a slow cooker??? What if it all burns in the bottom of the cooker and you've got nothing much else for tea???
Great article btw :T I don't use my SC enough, but used it on Wednesday and remembered why they're so good
I've got a rather swish sandwich toaster http://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk/product.aspx/!6619 It doesn't need any fat and you can put all sorts of shapes of bread in it including tortillas. Best of all it is really easy to clean. You just wipe it after use0 -

Our sandwich toaster has removable plates so you can put them in the dishwasher, the grill doesn't. So I find the sandwich toaster easier to clean, to be honest
. The grill is fairly old as OH had it a while and I find "just wipe" doesn't work on it!!

Newlywed I knwo what you mean
First time I left mine on unattended I was on here wringing my hands and wanting to run home all day! But guess what? It was absolutely fine! I place mine on top of the hob in the kitchen so I know if anything goes wrong it'll be on a flame proof surface.
The first one I had actually broke (the pot insert it self) and leaked my stock all inside the slowcooker (so touching metal) and nothing bad happenedit's pretty sealed and safe and nothing leaked out onto the work top. SO even if the worst happens it's safe
You would have to be dry cooking something for a while to really mess it up I think...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
