If you are outside your minimum term contract with Sky and don't have a second subscription (ie multi-room) then this I fully recommend to ensure you don't suffer from any call charges whether 09 premium rate or 084x/087x numbers which can be quite high (especially the 087x numbers).mrJ wrote:or just take out the phone lead going to the box - i do not see any other reason for it to be there, other thn for you to use payable services.... if you need to use say box office, just insert the cable when needed
It is an annoying condition of having £10 additional second subscription that you have and continue to have a phoneline plugged in at all times. I've even read that every now and then if Sky send you a letter reminding you that the condition of the second subscription is having a line plugged in at all times and that by not doing so you could be liable to have it disconnected or a higher second subscription being charged.
I have also been lied to by a Sky engineer that said it was needed for updates to the SkyDigiBox but this is untrue. Sky DigiBoxes receive (download) their updates via satellite only. Its only outgoing signals that need a telephone line and this is some interactive services, etc. Basically, by trying to keep everyone connected to the phoneline means that their and their customers interactive services maybe used and in most cases these dial out to numbers which Sky and their customers receive a revenue from.0 -
I heard that your sky box sends all your tv info back to sky to they can monitor what you have been watching?
Not sure why or even if this is true?
Maybe just an urban legend.0 -
i would have thought the digital service would, since it would give the channel owners a complete picture of people watching their programs - then be able to see what's hot, and what's not... adjust advertising prices, etc0
