Sorry can't help with painting/yellowing advice but I wouldn't cut anything off the legs myself. I don't know how old your DD is but in the long term she's bound to need 'adult' size furniture. You can always buy stools of different heights as she grows and there's room to get her knees under and tuck the stool away when not in use. I think the idea of using a desk for a dressing table is brilliant. She'll be able to clear the top off and use it as a desk if she wants so it's dual purpose.

If she's little and you're worried about a free-standing mirror there are plenty of mirrors around that you could fit to the wall behind and paint the frame to match if needed. It'll help bring light into a room, too.

Do post a pic when it's done.

hmo, is it possible that it has absorbed smoke in the past? I'm just wondering if the wet paint could be drawing anything out of the wood which is then turning it a yellowy colour? It might be that you need to sand it back and clean it with some solvent to stop it yellowing and then undercoat as before.
Hopefully someone else will have some better advice for you.

I have found a range called Shades for outdoor use and I'm going to do my bench and love seat in country cream and my garage in willow/sage.
We are also awaiting the arrival of a new chicken coop which I would love to paint blue but DH doesn't know that bit yet I may save that bit of info for next year!!

This is the paint I mentioned in my earlier post - the finish is great and like I said has withstood the winter very well.

I have the same stool to makeover, it has splash marks from decorating so I am painting it white and will put wallpaper on the top and bottom step. This pic is my inspiration but I havent chosen the wallpaper yet pall1.png

This looks lovely - given me an idea to do something similar.

sorry i had started to paint the draws before i remembered to take a photo.

anyway i got this free today and had planed to paint it white put new handles on the draws and put it in my dd room as a dressing tabel with a mirror above it or if i can pick up a proper dressing table mirror, put one of those on it.

but i got it in and my dh says its a desk and i say yes but it will be a dressing table and he says its a desk.

so am i kidding myself that it could be a dressing table once painted.

    its 30inch high x 42inch wide

I think that your desk is lovely and will look more like a dressing table when the painting is finished. With the addition of a mirror and some pretty paper to line the drawers I think it will look stunning. Hope you get a good result.

Do Ikea still sell those stools? I could really use one in my kitchen and would love to shabby chic it up like the one above! Just need to persuade O/H that we really need one... ;)

    Its called Bekvam, here http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60178887

Bought mine about 10 years ago when my son first had his cabin bed but couldnt manage the vertical ladder! Its been so handy to have for decorating, putting up curtains etc. We have just decorated our hall and the revamped stool will now sit at the end. When I get around to it that is!

  • Hi, i am getting a new conservatory and i want it accessorised shabby chic/cottage style ( I love cath kidston) I have a two seater sofa and two armchairs in a pale blue/cream stripe like this fabric
    http://www.edenhousefabrics.co.uk/ekmps/shops/wdtrading2/images/light-blue-and-white-stripe-100-cotton-poplin-fabric-62-p%5Bekm%5D533x400%5Bekm%5D.jpg

and so far all i have thought about buying to accessorise are these cushions http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130497041569&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT. I have only ordered two for the sofa as i thought i would get a different pattern for the armchairs but now i haven't got a clue if the blue floral on blue stripe is going to be too much, i would like a contrast colour for other cushions but what colour....... !!! you all seem to have some fantastic ideas can someone help me pls!!! I think if i can get my cushions sorted i will be ok with everything else!

    thanks
