I'm sorry it didn't work out but thank goodness you fixed it. Is the briwax a lot softer/wetter? The great thing about bad wax is that you can usually lift it with something else. Unless its really dark and stains your paint which is why you're meant to clear wax before you dark wax. Gives you some protection.

the briwax is softer and clearer it goes on with a fraction of the amount the other one was using.
the other was described a natural and not clear but either way it was a pig too use.
still you learn by these issues so nothing lost really.

Hi my dinning table and chairs are in desperate need of paint can anyone recommend what to paint it with? Do I need to prime it first? Would I be best using As paint or a eggshell as I want it to be hard wearing. Sorry for all the questions Tia x

I'm doing a dining set in AS. (Slowly. There's some pics a few pages back in the thread) I expect it'll get thrashed but I like shabby chic!

Have chalk painted the stains on the tablecloth - it looks pretty good but am waiting to see if the rust bleeds through. Thanks for everyones replies :)

    well, problem resolved.
i went and got briwax clear and tried it on the potentially naffed panel.
it went on as everyone has said and wipes up a treat.
i will fully buff it in the morning.
either it was a bad pot or totally not suitable for HM-CP.

    thanks for the help

Don't be sorry! I personally wouldn't do a table top in AS. I know people do but it's a difficult paint to get large flat areas looking good enough, and as you point out, you want it to be hardwearing and wipeable, safe from stains and it would be best to use an oil based eggshell in my opinion. If you're not using CP, yes you will need to sand lightly and prime before you paint.
I often keep the tops wooden and paint the legs. If you strip the varnish you might find nice wood beneath?
  • hello all

I posted a tiny bit right at the beginning of the thread and after a long hiatus and the production of a gorgeous bouncing baby boy (now 7 months old) Im back to the shabby chicing and have a quick question if anyone minds

I have a couple of pieces i want to paint and have loads pf cream emulsion but i really wanted a pale yellowish colour , am loving the homemade chalk paint recipe here but wondered if i could add a couple of tester pots of yellow to emulsion and would that help change the colour?? I cant afford to buy all new paint but reckon i could afford tester pots

Hope that makes sense ..... i want a battered shabby finish so not too picky on the yellowness level

does anyone think that might work?

    thanks in advance
