FeeFeel....you could pile your sofa with crochet blankets or quilts and also cushions come in an aray of stunning designs. From modern to shabbiness. That would be a good place to start your shabby journey:D

I was given a tall corner cupboard which needs a makeover. The bottom part has a cupboard and false drawer and the top has a glass door. Dd has already put her name on it for her house! It needs to come out of the depths of the shed where it's buried:o

Hi Prepareathome, seeing as it's bentwood and real art deco I would forget having it dipped!
I wonder if there are any experts near you who could restore it? It's not always as expensive as you think. And if you really love it, it might be worth it.

Thanks yes I think its going to be back to the chest of drawers( if we ever get two days dry so can work outside and leave the trolley to experts now I know its value as I would hate to ruin it as I do truly love it.....if brothers and sisters had known it was valuable they I doubt would have been so happy handing it over, but its just always been there.

Its amazing its art deco as I am not a lover of most art deco styles.......I will look around and see about eventually having it restored properly which is what I dream to see it back to original colour. Sis only painted it over for mum a few months before she died as well as mum was complaining its to dark for her bedroom and nearly gave it to me then(even she knew she could not give it to anyone else :rotfl:)

So now can I ask where is best place to buy paint - my bedroom furniture is cream so want to do my dark wood 5 drawer chest of drawers and bedside cabinet in a nice light colour but with a hint of shabby chic. I love the annie sloan paint seen used here and on the blog The Barristers Horse - if I had the money she has a chest of drawers for sale I covet but thinking can do mine in the annie sloan paint and as its plain maybe buy some details to stick on to it.[IMG][/img]7707137458_36e9aca86e_t.jpg chest of drawers I want to do up by prepareathomeearth, on Flickr

Excuse the stickers I used to keep yarn in it but they have been rehoused so stickers told me what yarn was in what drawer as I could never remember. Also need to sort 3rd drawer down as not closing properly as you can see. Its basic but holds a lot and very useful

    Thanks

Hi prepareathome, Go to the annie sloan website to see a list of her UK stockists. Hopefully there's one near you. If not, most of them deliver but the paint is heavy so this isn't the cheapest option. Having said that, you won't need a can of primer so you'll save there. You might want to get a handpainted colour card as the colours are very different on the computer. Old white is lovely. The cream colour is a bit yellowy but with the colour card you can see what's going to match what you have already. The paint will need protecting with wax or varnish too.
A bit if white spirit on a cloth will help get those stickers off.

Thanks Emma Kate......nearest stockist to me is Chester so will plan a nice little run out with hubby (I no longer drive)so with his work rota and payday 15th might be the Saturday after that - then I can buy not just paint for the chest but bedside cabinet and dining set :) Well not worth going all that way to buy one can of paint is it.

As its so nice today I want to do something. What would you suggest for this stool - rather old but wood still ok no worm or bits missing and still strong(I used to use it as my painting stool so paint on it, especially top). How would I best clean the paint off and then prepare it for painting then I might use it as a plant stand. I can pick up ordinary paint today.

Sorry to keep picking your brains

    Thanks

Hi, happy to help! A bit of wilkos paint stripper in the white plastic bottle and a scraper would do the trick! Or else a power sander would make light work of it!

Make sure you ring first as the popular colours can sell out! It is daft though. I'm sure Annie Sloan would make a fortune if the DIY stores carried it!

    Hello shabby chic'ers :)

I usually lurk and admire from afar, but I wondered if anyone has advice for me about some bathrom shelving. It's cheapy stuff so I'm willing to take a chance on it.

It's got an extender pole that fits floor and ceiling, and small triangular shelves that stick out from it. The pole and shelf supports are chrome and there are small "wood" triangles that fit in the shelves.

The chrome has started to rust and it's a bit naff to be honest but it fits my very small bathroom next to the basin.

I've seen things in shops that are obviously metal, painted in shabby chic paints. Can I do that with the chrome finish?

Hi jpscloud, you could! You should try to remove the rust with a fine wire wool, then use a rust inhibiting metal primer and then a metal paint. See if you can get both the rust inhibiting primer and the paint in spray form as this will be easiest. (Lots of thin coats, not thick runny ones with spray paint, and do it outside checking the direction of the wind first!)

Brilliant thanks emma kate! I am going to give that a go!

Mind you, I will either have to build myself an outdoor workshop or dodge the showers... easier said than done this year!
