I'm about to redecorate my daughters bedroom and I'm planning on doing everything myself. I've bought some material for curtains and I've got enough to cover an old beanbag. I also need to paint the walls. Does anyone know if I can buy white paint and just add a tester of red to make, you guessed it, pink! She really wants pink, but coloured paint is much more expensive than white. Any advice would be great, thank you.

I've done this but the trick is to buy white, then maybe a tester of the red, but make sure its the same type, ie. dont mix silk with matt. If you know how much paint you will need that is good as its impossible to mix the same shade again so over estimate how much you need.

Also remember that even a pale shade will look much stronger when it is on all the walls, it seems to magnify the shade somewhat!

I have made some lovely pastel shades this way, and if you over estimate how much you will need then you have some extra to go over scrapes and scratches etc.
:hello:  please play nicely children !

Hi- Ihave been working on a few projects and have painted a wooden table with waterbased eggshell and waxed it. I have changed my mind on what I want to do and want to remove the wax!!!! Don't want to spend a fortune....will wire wool and meths work?
    Cheers

Can I ask where people buy their wax from? I want some clear stuff to cover a bread bin I am going to sand down and paint, but I was a bit shocked at the prices in Homebase!
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

You don't really need to wax eggshell as its already shiny. But, having done it you can get wax finish removers from DIY stores or else you'd have to sand it off and probably have to re paint too. Starting with primer all over again...
Clear wax removes dark wax if you've used a dark wax and don't like it. No idea about meths...

I get mine from the hardware store or on ebay but it's not cheap. I think I once got some in the supermarket that was a bit cheaper...but that was years ago, dunno if they still do it.
