Hi there everyone I am reading this thread with interest to pick up tips. I am looking for a truely clear varnish but all the ones I have looked at have a slightly yellow look to them. Is the ronseal one clear?

I'm not sure as i haven't used it but when i've used this i'll let you know.:)

I have always used plasticote clear spray varnish over the top of my projects and it doens't go yellow. You can buy it in satin or gloss finish. HTH.

Thanks for the advise MrsCrafty I will pick some up but will still like to know if the Ronseal works as it would be more economical to use a tin rather than a spray.I will keep an eye out for your update nattyt. :)

I usually paint my furniture projects with emulsion and top with a clear varnish...I always use a clear satin waterbased one ...the waterbased ones won't yellow its just the oil based ones that do :)

I am going to paint my kitchen table and chairs but want to do the chairs each a different colour. How can i get round this without having to buy 4 different tins of paint?

Dulux mix your own would be ideal imo..as they are a good size tin, you can take in a sample of any colour to match and they are only about £1 so £4 max with a fair amount of paint left over :)

I have to say that I use water based acrylic paint on my walls as well as my wooden painted stuff. Not sure why but it hardens so much better and seems to last longer. It's not soft.

On the walls because I have little ones. They knock paint, biro (yes biro and I got it off with hairspray) but apart from that, Water based acrylic is the way to go.
