Sorry about car, but at least you were in a position to do something about it so it could have been a lot worse!

Thanks all much a appreciated, you comments on the diary really do help keep me going
tootallulah:Cheers mate, the wood burning stove sounds great even though it may not heat the house.
gallygirl: indeed we are fortunate, although I needed a car for work, I could get the train,
I did think about stopping the diary as I don't want to reveal too much personal information, I may anonymise it somewhat going forwards, this forum is just so popular... Funny how there is a certain stigma with Money Saving - I'd hate for a work colleague to find this thread.
Anyway back on topic, I got a rather nice letter from Halifax this morning. I set out to reclaim card protection that I hadn't noticed for some time. Filled out the questionnaire and in fairness Halifax paid out pretty quick +£760 ! Very happy with that! - details here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2712093
In other news the local garden centre had a 25% discount off of everything for members. So, I stocked up on coal. Bought enough to last the winter (depending on how much the OH burns), saving a good load of money. Central heating still not onhope to keep it going till November.
Also got a little bit of cashback +£12 from a purchase for the wedding, so that will get overpaid once it hits the bank.
Cheers all0 -
Feeling a bit demotivated at the moment, had some problems with the new car. Nothing terminal, just very, very annoying.
Not really done much towards the mortgage this week. Been away with work which payed for dinner etc which helped. Also cleared out the toiletries from the hotel room , which I will use up at home. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I even took home a spare toilet roll . The OH thinks I'm mad.
Feeling very lazy - santander are processing my bank application and have requested some docs, can't be bothered even thought its worth £135 off free cash. --- must try harder.0 -

Very nice weekend with fantastic weather!
I've recently had a birthday and received a little bit of money. Think I will probably use this to OP the mortgage. Seems a little bit rude, but my end goal is the thing keeping me pretty focused. Anyone else do this?0 -
I havent done that, ( but then I havent had a birthday since starting my MF Journey) but if there is nothing you need or want then go for it , every penny matters!!MFW start figures - August 2010 - 65,303 O/P Aug 280 Sept 499 Oct 499 Nov 499 Dec 499 Jan 6205 Feb 444 March 444 April 444 May444 June444 July444

Overpayed by £60 today thanks to a little bit of birthday cash - very nice indeed. Things have slowed down a little, but matched betting went ballistic last week, I've just got to finish the accounting, get the cash back into my accounts in order to overpay.0

Greetings mbbetter. I have been reading with interest, and see that you are certainly not a procrastinator at all, much to my surprise! Your mortgage is about the same level as mine, however maternity pay then a reduced part time salary means nowhere near such an impressive overpayment schedule. Jealous? Moi? But seriously, the more you do now, the more you can relax if any pesky kids happen your way. I will follow you, if only to see what life might have been like....Debt free as of July 2010 :j

how much did you profit on your matched betting this week?Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!
Mortgage free II: New Year's Eve 2013!
Mortgage free III: Est. Dec 2021...0 -
Thank you for the kind words SkintGypsy - I appreciate you taking the time to post. Sounds like you are doing alright to me, and there is infact more to life than MFW.
Pawlala - I managed to make a rather stonking £193.85 last week on matched betting, thanks to a very generous Betfair. This week I've been away with work again and profits will be much more modest. I haven't ploughed any of this into the mortgage for the last few weeks, due to cashflow.
I have a couple of items on ebay that should result in a profit of £1.20 - yay! Actually bit of a waste of time, but I'll do it anyway. I have another 8 of these items to sell, so I may well see a tenners worth of profit.
Cheers all!0
