I have thought of another option to save 25quid.

Can I declare it sorn without log book? Then I get a confirmation of this and next month use that to retax it?
No. You cannot use the SORN Acknowledgement Letter to tax your vehicle.

If you SORN it, you will need the V5C to retax it, or wait for next year's reminder. :D
  • Mine reminder only arrived today. Contact number on the letter is 0300 1234321. Are you sure you every got a log book or reminder? perhaps it's all still going to the previous keepers adress?
  • Thanks all.

Can someone just confirm, if I get form to declare sorn couple days before end of month, hand in my tax disc and declare sorn.

Then keep car off road couple of weeks (no probs we have another car).

I should then get a letter to confirm it has been declared sorn. Can I use this letter with MOT and insurance certificates to tax the car again? If this plan will work I think I will wait a month and tax it for November.

    Will this plan work?

You don't need the log book to tax the car, all you need is the reference number from it, so if you sorn the car you will get a letter I believe with this reference number on it, I have noted down this number down elsewhere just in case my log book is mislaid for some reason, and always tax online.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
  • What is all this about SORNing a car to get around paying for a new log book! Just man up and pay for it! You can't continue for the rest of your life without a logbook. What will you do if the police ask you to produce it? Or if you decide to sell/scrap the car in future?

    :)

    As I said earlier...

Your belief is wrong. That letter does not have the appropriate reference number on it.
I have one of these letters, V956, in front of me and the only 'numbers' on it are the registration number and a telephone number.

So I stand by my assertion...

Indeed the V956 letter finishes by saying...
If you want to use or keep the vehicle on a public road before the SORN runs out, you will need to tax it. You can do this, using your V5C:

Does the number not change though? Is the one from last year the same as this year?

I still havent got letter from them.

Quick question what happens if I do not sorn it, but take it off the road because I have no way of taxing it until I get my number?

    its an fineable offence
    to those panicking about reminders
    my reminder arrived yesterday
so the DVLA must have just sent them

How long before the end of the month should you get it?

    QUOTE]

Just to jump into this thread - see my earlier post about expired tax disc. I'm still waiting on my reminder and my tax expired at end of August. :o

I only noticed the bloomin thing yesterday and am panic stricken - but did a little investigating and discovered on various sites that they don't always send out reminders. Then say the onus is on you to get it taxed (which of course it is) so you shouldn't really need a reminder.

I won't get caught out like this again.:(
