I am feeling a bit more cheerful.

I have a question. My bill to "THEM" for other half seems to be hardly moving even though we pay like £80 a week. It is driving me mad. I cant see any interest or penalties that are new. I just want it to go away.

the question is, can HMRC be adding more tax on without it somehow sending me a letter or something

There is another poster, on here, who has been having a horrendous time with HMRC, and I think she has mentioned, the above being a huge problem, recently.

I am sure she wouldn't mind comparing notes. I will just go and look for her user name.

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1444295 - Post 887.

My heart goes out to her too, it is just crazy how much stress government/council/DWP etc departments are causing people, somebody should hold them accountable, but it is such a difficult system to figure out, let alone beat.

Big sigh aaaaaaah, but as beanie would say ..... keep plodding xx.

The best thing to do is 'phone and ask. If you're being charged interest it may work out cheaper to shift the debt, or some of it, to a low or no interest loan - or cash in savings which are probably earning a lower rate [of interest].

Must say I've always agonised before getting in touch with HMRC - and been pleasantly surprised every time; they do seem to prefer people contacting them before they start chasing..

:) Apart from anything else, by contacting them [which will be noted] you tell them that you're keeping an eye on your affairs, so they're somewhat less likely to hassle (they've got plenty of other files to look at).
