Parking in Blue Badge spaces

I am recovering from a foot fracture and have to use crutches to take the weight and help balance when walking, although I can drive without problem. I used a blue badge space at Asda because the road surface was wet and slippery and the normal spaces tight when I tried to open the car door to retrieve my crutches from the rear seat. After shopping I returned to find a notice on my car from a company called Town and City Parking asking for payment. The custpmer services in the store were unsympathetic and advised me to telephone Town and City Parking and 'speak to them nicely' I want to refuse to pay outright. There were people parked with blue badges with better mobility than I have at the present time.Anyone out there had a similar experience and how did you handle it?

Ignore it.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0

Just don't pay. Ignore it.
Nothing will happen.
And don't phone them."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Its a scam.....do not pay it!!
I just had one recently and have had the best advice form guys on here. Expect to get a lot of scary letters through the post threatening you with debt collecters and court proceedings.....ignore them all....they are bullies that steal money!!0 -
Can you not see the ignorance in that statement? There were people parked with blue badges with better mobility than I have at the present time.
A Blue Badge, as so many 'ill-informed' people seem to think, is NOT something monopolised by people with a physical disability.
You don't have to pay it though.0 -
Just to expand a little, Tilly. The Blue Badge scheme is irrelevant on private land. Whilst supermarkets are obliged to provide disabled parking bays, the use of them is not restricted (by law) to those with Blue Badges. You can park in them, anyone can park in them. They're there as a courtesy. Ignore any request for payment that you receive."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

My biggest pet hate of the blue badge scheme is when people use their nan's when she's not with them sort of thing. I know some people who do this and think they're arrogant lazy b*****ds. (Supposedly they do sometimes investigate their use and revoke the blue badge if being abused, but that hardly helps the blue badge holder themselves). It's also well known that they are often stolen and sold on the black market, and many dead people's badges are being used. I have also known of someone with a badge for just being overweight, which seems rather couter-productive to me as surely to lose weight the idea is to be more physically active, not to park directly outside Asda.[UK]Blitzen wrote: »A Blue Badge, as so many 'ill-informed' people seem to think, is NOT something monopolised by people with a physical disability.
And of course some disabilities which might make people need to park in a disabled space are less visible, for example a person may have a blue badge because they have a bowel condition (if a person is running from a disabled space to the disabled toilet this may be the reason).
There are many other "hidden disabilities", a number of which I don't believe people should be entitled to a blue badge for.0 -
The test is mobility based, so not all 'disabled' people get one. Eg - no 'legs' gets a badge, no 'arms' doesn't get a badge [since they can still walk from the normal spaces to the doors].Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It's 10pm, you get to the 24hr Tesco, it's lashing down and there are the usual 20 empty 'blue badge' spaces....where do you park??

In the disabled space. 10am in the morning and I would still park in the disabled spaceOopsadaisy wrote: »It's 10pm, you get to the 24hr Tesco, it's lashing down and there are the usual 20 empty 'blue badge' spaces....where do you park??

Asda's signs are terrible. They threaten 'Civil Penalty Notices,' which is
a) fraud
b) threatening something which does not exist
c) an clear statement that they are unenforceable contractual penalties0
