Timeandmoneylord wrote:Hey guys,
How do you get these samples? Do you just go and be really really nice to the SA? I know sometimes you have to have vouchers...
Thanks guys!
heres some of my advice off thsi thread:
up north we say 'if you dont ask you dont get' so i just ask nicely, show interest in the products and it does help that i do actually buy lancome and clarins, if you do buy some of teh ranges make sure you buy all around the place (theres about 11 of each of these counters near me) so the sa's know your face and will give you new stuff to try every time you pop in even when youre not buying anything, also only buy when its gift time and if you have a clarins near you with a red room you can get a card to collect 5 mins per £20 spent to redeem on free treatments. if you dont buy teh stuff but the counters are in a shop like boots where you can buy anything and pay for it at any till take your lunch or magazine or whatever to the beauty counter to pay and ask about new product launches and ask for samples whilst youre there. always keep an eye out on here for vouchers you can redeeem for freebies and take a voucher to each counter near you not just one (if you have to put a name on it you can have some fun thinking up silly pseudonims!) once you get a bit of practice you will be fine, it gets better and easier as you keep trying! now i go round all over the country gathering things and selling them on ebay, means i dont have to get a part time job whilst im at uni- i shop for a living! hehe! GOOD LUCK!
his chrimbo pushing of samples is without vouchers too remeber, 'i wonder if my firend would liek taht for christmas, do you have a samples she could try...?' etc.
remeber also to go to as many chrimbo shopping evenings as you can, most tickets cost between £3 and £5 and the goodie bags are always worth more and you can always claim your money back against a purchase and do a very sucessful tour of all of the counters getting tonnes of goodies you eouldnt normally get!
and open cards, expecially at debenhams theres lots of 10% off days comiung up and most other cards give an interductory 10% off day or week plus a goodie bag (if this isnt automatically offered, remeber the sa's get a commission for opening teh cards so dont be afraid to ask for some samples before you sign on the dotted line!), just pay it off and never use it again if you dont want! most are worth while holding on to for card holder events and you can get mopney-off and free samples vouchers in your mailings too, especially with debenhams.
most of you probably know but it is clarins' philisophy to sample products before you buy. if you ask for a consulatation it only takes about 5-10 mins and they will reccomend a cleanser, toner, day and night cream, scrub, mask and any other treatments and they will give you whatever samples they have in. little 5ml tubes in boxes.
decleor, chanel, clinique and siseido will do the same thing but you have to ask for teh samples, clarins will give them to you anyway
always ask if youre having a party too for goodie bags, the lady at selfridges siseido gave me 10 sample packs worth £7.50 each!!
have a read of thsi thread coz theres lots more good advice from everyone else who posts here and obviously make sure you print off the vouchers!:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -

From one newbie to another
I started off with the vouchers but after reading all the great advice from members like Freebie_Junkie, JuliePink26, MBN and all the other ladies, I decided to try for samples just by asking. Keep track of this thread as you will always learn something from them! :T
From my experiences so far, I wouldn't say you have to be really really nice to the SA but always look interested and attentive in what they have to say; ask for their advice, be chatty. After a few times you'll be coming up with lots of 'creative' reasons about why you need to try a sample first before purchasing. Have fun practising this! Never feel pressurised by their sales pitches if they get pushy. It's your money and there are literally hundreds of companies out there selling beauty products - what makes them so special?
Keep to this mindset when you're in their stores: you are not looking for freebie samples, you are a serious shopper who is looking for the perfect moisturizer/perfume/body scrub etc. and you're willing to pay good money for it. That means you have to test lots of products first in a proper environment like at home, at work, outdoors whatever and dabbing a bit of cream on your hand is not going to tell you a lot.
I'm sure other members will come up with more and better advice but I hope that helps!0 -

dont forget the utlimate get out if theyve dabbed some on your hand but are refusing to give you any freebies, just say 'sometimes my skin can be sensitive, im goign to have a walk around and see how it develops, if it feels ok ill maybe come back. thanks, bye.' hehe!:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -

I have been to Brent Cross over the past 2 weeks with various vouchers:
26/10
Chanel in Fenwicks / boots - no mascara, no staff in boots
Origins in John Lewis - 1 mega mushroom serum
Tues 31/10
Benefit, John Lewis - Got a green palette of NW offer (begruginly)
this monday 6/11
Lancome x 3 (boots gave me 2, john lewis 1)
I didnt have the confidence to ask chanel again for the samples and no-one was at their counter in boots again. Doh!
Bough Clinique 'Happy' for mate's birthday pressie. Just as I left I saw this 'lip treats' postcard and it said get a lip gloss sample and make up remover 'free with any purchase'. I queried this and the sa gave me a lip balm (looked squashed) and make up remover 30ml. I did see there were some better sample (sample lip gloss) sets hidden away at the till. So rude!
I am embarking on Boots today in Harrow for Hypnose sample, Debenhams for chanel age defying cream (got it in mailing, but they never have the staff in though in the evenings) and Clinique night cream (as seen on store card bill booklet for this month) sample plus lancome sample.
Will also be going to central london on sat or sun for biotherm glamour mag offer, origins ginger cream offer (instyle mag - december), lancome, chanel, debenhams again for chanel (i found a extra booklet that comes with the card bill in one of their shops recently when i went to get the chanel cream - no staff there that time as they were on lunch so didnt get it) and general shopping. Just in case the first debenhams I go to takes away my booklet - i'll have another 1. Oooh, I bet i end up with nothing though!! I'm too nervous for this stuff.
:rotfl:
in future if youre buyign anything ask for samples before you hand over the cash, say its for a gift and you want some samples to put with it, if they say they havent got any say you might look elsewhere instead then as your friend really likes trying new stuff, they wouldnt risk loosing a sale when theyre all on commission so theyll find you soemthing, even sometimes they go to another counter. when i bought my oh a gift set from manckind in harvey nikols they didnt have any samples so the girl got the guy from the ysl counter next door to give me some instead hehe!:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -
