No need. i know their views already.

They are equally dismissive of the firm's own Lesbian, Gay and TS Support group which, they say, is implicity patronising because it suggests those groups are somehow weaker and in need of special treatment.

    Oh the irony.

Indeed. There is no issue any more in this country with acceptance of non-standard sexual orientation, so why make a fuss? The usual hotheads, I guess.

I have no issue with people of unusual sexual orientation - this is a private issue in my view - but I do have an issue with making the entire thing into some kind of political football to justify all kinds of legislation and highly paid 'enforcers' to ensure that the legislation is applied to the letter. Surely there are more important things the money can be spent on?

If the roles are justifiable because they represent minority groups that people have a problem with, should we also have roles to ensure fair and equal treatment to bankers also?
people choose to be bankers they do not choose to be part of a minority group

there's a big difference between a big bucks paid lawyer with full recourse to funds and the wherewithall to conduct lawsuits than the majority of lgbt people.

the legislation does not suggest lgbt people are 'weaker', it merely reflects the fact that they may face discrimiation because of their identity. do you also feel there is no need for racial equality legistlation?

What exactly IS a non-standard sexual orientation? I'm intrigued.

What has ones sexual preferences got to do with the ability to do a job? (Possibly with the exception of bestiality and kiddy fiddling)

yes but these are roles representing a minority group that still people have a problem with .. there are still homophobic people bi phobic people and many do not understand trans issues

you will always be able to find some people who harbour animosity towards any minority group you care to define; it doesn't mean that two grade 7 roles in the civil service are necessary jobs. you could employ everyone in the country into such a role and some of them would still be homophobic.

If you truly believe that, then I think you are kidding yourself.
compliance is compliance - you don't hire a person because they may be gay or mixed race and be bad at their job, you hire them because you beleive they can do the job. if they're gay or from an ethnic background has little to do with it.

it's always worrying to see people try to muddle the gay/ ethinc thing

Absolutely I think there is no need, particularly in these more enlightened times.

Special treatment of any kind - be it negative or positive treatment - is still special and singles the subject out from the mainstream. Ergo, it's divisive, patronising and does exactly the opposite of what it intends.
