most probably yes if they have been given the system. it is only just being rolled out to LAs and i dont know the time scale on when each LA will be getting it.
dont be alarmed people, we will not and are not allowed to abuse this syetm.

Well I have to change my claim twice a year, being a full time student and I always take all my documents - CTC, bank statements, IS claim letters etc, in with me for them to photocopy anyway.
My Bank statements show all benefits being paid in and any savings I have

LA's can now access a system that gives tax credit information- just the amount in payment and if it is WTC or CTC. There always has been an LA helpline that we could ring for this information. Like Anthill says, snooping in records that you have not got official reason to look at would be a very serious diciplinary matter. Data matching has been around for a very long time that would identify undeclared tax credits but NOT incorrect amounts.
Whenever an HB/CTB customer gets a revised tax credit award they should inform the LA (as with all other changes in circs) as it can cause an overpayment and is actually an offence to fail to do so.
As an aside, on the subject of the access to bank accounts. This is only done by fraud officers when making enquiries into suspected fraud. It is not done lightly and involves submitting a very long form to an authorised officer exlaining why is it required, how it is proportionate and how not having the information would prejudice an investigation.
We have been able to require information from an employer and/or landlord since at least 1992, but again only if it is justified and required for the purposes of benefit administration.0 -
Why doesn't everyone who claims a benefit (me too, State Pension) be checked via the computer "talking" to banks' computers? If you've made an honest claim I don't see what the problem is." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

so dont worry, we wont be delving unless we are dealing with your particular case.
another thing, dont know if anyone in the past has used quickcalc but that is now passworded for la's use only.
Do people actually ask you to do this?:eek:Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Are you actually saying here that some claimants of IS etc are also claiming tax credits which are for working? How can they do this? They must be either very stupid or think they are totally above the law.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

If the LA's can access all the Data from DWP and Tax Credits, surely the claims will be dealt with much quicker than what is happenning now. Why will they ask you to fill in a 20 page booklet, and supply them with the original copies of all the information which they can look up from the DWp, Tax Credits database and from your bank and employer.0
