O2 broadband issue

Just installed O2 wireless broadband & I'm finding it really slow.
I have used the broadband filter to connect my phone & the wireless box.
The laptop I am using is very close to the wireless box & I can't understand why the connection is so slow. Broadband speedchecker rekons I'm getting around 4848 kbps. Is there anyway I can speed it up before I decide to cancel?

Seems fair from adsl0

I've since carried out some tweeks & it seems to be running a lot faster.
Also, I am an O2 payg customer & signed up for their cheapest package, I think it's £7.50. However, when I've checked my account, it's showing they intend to charge £12.50.0 -
They dont do the 7.50 option anymore its now £8, £12, and £20 (or +£5 to each if you arent a O2 customer). they should have told you this when you signed up. Methinks theres something wrong if they want to charge you £12.50 so give them a ring and ask.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

It's only £7.50 with the 02 mobile discount-have you registered your O2 mobile for this?
What speed do you get when connected by ethernet vs wireless? No free lunch, and no free laptop

There's also an issue with loosing connection. Has anyone else had this problem & if so how can it be permantly resolved?0 -

Yes I signed up using my O2 mobile number.
Speed has only been checked using wireless, I can't use ethernet as the wireless box isn't in the same room as the laptop.
*I have an airport express which I've been using with virgin broadband, would I be able to use this instead of the O2 wireless box?0 -
You said the laptop is 'very close', which rather implies in the same room.
Retest with a temporary ethernet conection-the point is to establish if it's a wireless issue or something else. If no better on ethernet, then the first thing to do is log into the router interface and change to a different wireless channel-the default one may be conflicting with a neighbour on the same channel. You can use any ADSL2+ modem/router you like with O2.
The mobile discount should be shown in your online account-have you applied the necessary top up in the last 3months?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I was considering O2 but have read that they throttle your bandwidth for certain types of data download so if you are using any P2P services then you will be restricted.0

When you're checking the online account, the bill would show the full package price. The discount does not reflect during the first three months of the promotion period. If your O2 mobile is updated with us correctly, you'll see the mobile discount of £5.00 after the three months period.the_devil_made_me_do_it wrote: »Yes I signed up using my O2 mobile number.

The wireless box is in the hallway & I generally use the laptop in the front room which is close to the hallway. However, if I move to another sofa further away from the box, that's mainly when there is connection problems.

I don't know how to log on to the router interface & change wireless channel.

I top usually once a month. In fact I've only just topped up a few days ago.0
