Leaving washing out at night

Hi there

just a quick maybe stupid question but does anyone still leave their washing out or peg it out at night, i do it sometimes in the summer but the weather being changable and i often hear people say the air at night is different and gets it damp but surely it will dry off during the day, just wanted to know if i was wasting time putting it out or not

Thanks :A

  • I do this esp during spring/summer as much as possible. It not only saves me time so I don't have to peg it out in the morning before work, but I also reduce the spin rate on the washing machine to save money on electric. The washing will get damp overnight but is always fully dry by the time I get home at 5pm.

In the autum I continue to do the same thing but may have to pop anything thats not completely dry onto an airer for a few hours.

whe the weathers warmer we sometimes do this, however it quite a novelty for us to even be able to hang our washing out ,because when we used to live in a flat it got pinched !
  • Quite often put mine out in the evening if weather forecast good to save me time in the morning. In the summer it's often dry by the time I've dropped kids off to the school bus. (In the winter, I mostly use pulleys indoors.) I'm sure my neighbours think I'm batty - and they could be right - but it works for me!

i have a 4 month old and a toddler, i haven`t got the time and neither can i leave them otherwise toddler will be bopping baby over the head with a toy so i wait till both are in bed to get all chores done.
my washing normally gets hung out about midnight and collected the next day when kids are in bed if it rains so be it, washing can sometimes be out there two days before i can get it in dry. hey ho i`d rather play with my kids and know they are safe than worry about who see`s me hanging it out at midnight. lifes too short!!

Yes, I do. If the weather looks favourable, I will risk it. If it rains overnight however, it will soon dry off again!
  • I do in the summer, but not in the autumn. As the weather gets cooler I find lots of spiders come out at night and spin webs between plants / shed etc. and my washing on the line, tucking themselves away in the washing to hide when finished. I have quite a phobia where spiders are concerned and finding spiders in the washing is just far too stressfull! (Does this happen to anyone else or do spiders find my garden welcoming for some reason? Maybe they sense fear? ;) )
