Parking Ticket Valid

............................................I've been issued with a ticket my permit ran out in a council car park. The new one was in the car but behind another one. I was going to try and appeal i have written a nice creepy letter stating that permit had been inserted incorrectly behind another and not on display. However, i am also now wondering if the ticket itself is valid as the parking signs all clearly state a fine of £50 - in big red letters outlining why you are liable for a ticket, but the ticket itself says the fine is £70? i have read that under the road traffic act they must state the fine payable. Can I get them on a technicallity like this? It's Liverpool City Council.
