Just checked my bank statement and...

£14.95 has been charged to my card.
Looked at who it went to and it syas "rewardsfirst.co.uk". I've never heard of them and looked it up and I've never even been on that site or registered with it. It had a list of merchants and I've never even bought anything from them over the weekend.
I got paid on friday just past and never spend until all bills have been deducted, so I'm really confused as to why this has been taken off..
Anyone ever had similar happen to them? I've got the phone number so gonna phone tomorrow and see why money has been taken.. I don't get how they would get my bank details if I have never used the site?
Thanks

It doesnt explain much but a quick google found this.

Q. I read your recent warning (Questions of Cash, 12 June) about fraudulent payments that banks are rejecting responsibility for. My wife and I are concerned at two unexplained debits on my wife's account with Barclaycard. The charges are quite trivial, but we worry that this may lead to future more significant unauthorised transactions. The first transaction was on 21 February, with Waitrose in Chichester for £8.63. My wife was not in Chichester on that date and has never been to that shop. The second was charged against my supplementary card on the same account on 14 April for £14.95, with a payment to Rewardsfirst. I have never had any dealings with Rewardsfirst. I have written five letters to Barclaycard at their head office. One letter of reply refers to an account with a completely different number that is nothing to do with us. CB, Hampshire.
A. Barclaycard has now made a full refund. It has also provided you and your wife with some personal fraud advice and provided a direct line number in case of further fraudulent activity on the account.0 -
I think this is a site that provides "rewards" for a monthly fee. You can get signed up to it quite by accident on several sites, including VistaPrint and Easyjet among others. There's a box on the payment page that says we'll sign you up to this great club, and you'll get £xx amount off your next purchase with us
The box is sometimes pre ticked, and you have to make sure you untick it.
You probably won't be able to get the bank to do anything about it - it's what is known as a recurring payment, and it will appear to them that you have given authority. Even cancelling your cards wont stop them in a lot of cases. You need to find out how you got signed up and speak to the company. If you have no joy, do you have a consumer programme on your local BBC radio station - where I live, there's been a lot of cases on there, and the presenter has had some sucess getting refunds for people.
Don't leave it, as you'll find the charge every month, in all probability. Good luck!!0 -
Hmmm cool will check it out..
I'm not really an online shopper, only really pay for my flybe flights and travelodge online.. And the odd time I buy from play.com or amazon.. I'm strange like that - I'm old fashioned - I prefer to pay with cash than by card!!
Will phone the company tomorrow and also the bank after I see what the company say for themselves...
Thanks for the relpies, first time something like this has ever happened to me :mad:0 -
There is a long thread on this company and their unethical marketing methods here: Shopper Discounts and Rewards
Also see: http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2008/07/we-save-money-for-shopper-disc.html
It's probably linked to your flybe purchase:
"Beware the £10 cashback offer on Flybe flights that can cost you £14.95 per month forever! If you accept it, you are also accepting trial membership of Rewards First, a discount shopping site and after one month they will charge your card £14.95 per month until you stop your membership. The charge was referred to on line 23 of 28 of my welcome e-mail, which I treated as junk and did not read properly. Also the cashback is not automatic, you have to claim it. It's not actually a scam, but an easy trap to fall in to if, like me, you don't scrutinise every line of every e-mail you recieve."

Hi All
I've also just checked my credit card statement and see I've been charged twice for Rewardsfirst - GBP14.95. I have never signed up to them or received a welcome letter or email from them. I did buy Flybe airline tickets and paid Travel Lodge. I suggest we avoid sites where this type of hidden charging takes place. I won't be buying from Flybe or Travel Lodge again!!
Really Fed up and feel invaded.

This sounds completely unfair, I'm sure watchdog would be interested in this story, perhaps you should email them as you are clearly not the only victim.0

How do you know Travelodge is included in this please?
I make regular bookings through their website and have never either been charged a monthly fee by Rewardsfirst, nor seen any offers that might lead to such a thing happening, so would be interested to know where this came from in respect of T/L?0 -
I had the same thing last month, - £14.95 rewardsfirst.co.uk appeared on my bank statment.
Apparently when using 'nochex' to pay for something online I agreed to the free trial which you could cancel within 30days. I remember actually making a note and cancelling this trial online within this time in August. Yet 2 months down the line a debit goes from my account.
I asked them why they took this without notice and they didn't really have an answer apart from I signed up to it and if I had experienced technical problems when trying to cancel (which I hadn't!) I should have contacted them? However, they'd now cancel my 'membership' but wouldn't refund.
Within the blurb in their response email it states they give details of great offers at retailers etc. So in replying to them again I asked why had I therefore not received any correspondence from them whatsoever within the 2 months that had passed? The email was ignored so I sent another saying I require an answer as I will be taking it further. Of course they had no answer for this and are now refunding me £14.95!
Good luck getting your money back.0
