Had a car accident and confused.

  • I was stationary indicating to turn right across and waiting for a space to get across in. Traffic was busy so I had my hand brake on. Lorry came straight into the back of me. And yes my insurance company advised drive assist. Why does this make any difference?
  • OP - I can not stress this enough. SEND THE CAR BACK TO DRIVE ASSIST ASAP.
  • I am trying to get them to pick the car up which is proving difficult enough. Emailed them last night to say cancel agreement as per 7 day cooling off period. They phoned me this morning and questioned it. Anyway they agree to pick up however it will not be till tomorrow at the earliest. I have now contacted a accident management company who seem happy to take the case on. Am I best paying Drive Assist and then claim back the costs or should I allow Drive Assist to claim from the third party which is there intention. Based upon comments on here I now distrust them. I am assuming they may charge investigation fees if trying to contact the third parties insurers etc?

What instructions did you give for Drive Assist to get involved?

Personally I would be upfront with them and advise them that having researched them, you do not trust them.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • I have agreed that they can recover their costs from the third party's insurance company. Should I change this, pay them then claim back? They are difficult to get hold of to start with. Already told them I wish to cease dealings with them asap.

my brothers car was shunted, it was parked and empty. he claimed through his insurer on the other cars insurence, he got a 10 reg 4x4 as courtesy car, (5k rent/month) which went straight onto the other drivers costs. all costs/repairs are recovered from the other party and if your insurer is reputable, they will take all the hassle from you and let you relax. your claims wont be effected.

  • Well my insurance company who I would say I though were reputable have said there job is to pay out if needed. They said its my responsibility to pursue to claim against another. It seems others have had similar experiences looking at the above posts.

You can still claim off your own policy and just pursue the third party for your uninsured losses (excess etc).
  • Don't give Drive Assist any of your money. They won't request it at this stage, atleast they shouldn't.

Do not drive the car. Don't even touch it. Leave it where it is and wait for them to come and collect. Demand they do it as soon as possible.

They are an horrendously poor company and you are right to distrust them.
  • Well I have demanded verbally and via email that they collect the vehicle asap. They have phoned me this evening to say the cannot collect until Monday however have said they will stop any charges with effect from today. Got the advisors name etc just incase they try it on.
