For DS's 9th we had the boys over around 5-6pm, had fish and chips, then popcorn and nibbles with a DVD - usually go to Blockbuster first for DS to choose. And I agree get rid of them in the morning - it's a big enough break for the parents!

There's not a chance that 4 nine year olds will be asleep at 11. He won't have much of a chance to be a grump the next day - he'll fall asleep halfway through it. :)

With only 4 of them I don't think there's much point in trying to organise games for them. They're happy to play together - company is all they need and trying to get 4 nine year olds to concentrate their attention on one adult out of school is nigh on impossible!!

Our neighbour's little girl went to one on Friday. She says she went to sleep at 3.30 and woke up at 5!

This year we did go-karting though - cost a fortune but it was over quickly! I don't mind having boys over to stay though - it's a lot quieter than leaving him to fight with his sister!

I wouldn't let him stay again because his friends parents thought it was ok for a 7 yr old to watch Family Guy.

Maybe they didn't know? I'd never let my kids watch it now I've seen it but for a long time I thought it was like the Simpsons!

Wii tournement in the evening with pizza (Whatever is 241 at supermarket), then down to the local cinema saturday morning for £1 a ticket (not usually the latest releases, but thats OK) ..and if you dare, smuggle in a bag of cheap popcorn from Morrisons:money:)

The next time I saw his mum i brought up the subject of him watching Family Guy and her reply was" I just let my son watch what he wants".

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I'll pass them on to my son and see which ones he likes.

I love the idea of the do it yourself pizza's and ice cream sundae's for dinner. Cheap as well. :T

I'm not looking forward to it lol but he is. I figure i can suffer it for one night and we've arranged for OH to take them home at 11am.

You will suffer lol. Good idea for OH to take the kids home as at least you won't have to wait for parents to show up when they feel like it. It also gives you the option to take them home earlier if you've had enough ;).
  • Hi, as Mum to two boys aged 9 and 11 sleepovers are something to be endured by parents because the kids love them so much!

In my experience if you can get them to sit quietly and watch a DVD all evening then you have achieved a miracle (and I would love to know how you have done it!!) A group of 9 year olds together will want to run about make lots of noise.

I draw the line at 2 kids at any one time, and usually take them to the park with the football as soon as they arrive in the vague hope this might tire them out a bit.

After that you just have to let them get on and enjoy themselves (within reason) and try and set some kind of sensible lights out time.

Remember to enjoy the warm glow of knowing you are such a good Mum afterwards too, it makes up for not getting much sleep!

Can I just say that when you have a sleepover and they keep you up to 4am - which they will...... 8am is the PERFECT time/opportunity to sneak in with a water gun, whip off the covers and soak them!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh the sweet revenge and screams:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

6 teenage girls will do that to you.... lol :D

Bizarrely, DS (10) came home and asked me yesterday if he could watch Family Guy. After looking at him in disbelief I asked him why and he said that 'all the kids' at school watch it.

I told him it was on at 11pm (for a reason) and was he sure? He said yes, they Sky Plus it!

When he was tiny I did wonder about the point of the watershed, but as he gets older, I understand it much better - he pays attention and takes grown up TV in now; likes to watch programmes with me and would quite happily sit through anything post watershed that he could lay his eyes and ears on!

I thought the family guy was like the simpsons as well. I sometimes let my 8 and 11 year olds watch a 12, but only after i've vetted it first, i don't mind the odd swear word, but no sex.!!
