BT Hidden charges

I changed over to sky talk 18 months ago and expected all of my bt account to be swapped over with me doing nothing. A month or so ago I recived an email from BT saying my bill was ready to be viewed.

Funny i thought and then on checking my bank account I found BT have been taking over 30 pounds a month out of my account.

So ineffect I have been paying for numerous packages from BT without my knowledge as I though it had all been changed over.

Line rental , freinds and family mobile and a few other packages.

Where do i stand with this . Im not bothered about the line rental and calls fair dos Ive used it and its SKys incompetance as well. For which sky have apologised and refunded me .

How do I go around getting things back from BT . I have emailed them and am just about to phone them , but I know I will get frustrated and get no where .

Over 18 months I think they owe me about 180 quid.

I don't follow. £30 a month over 18m is £540, not £180. Are you saying the switch didn't actually go through 18m ago, in which case BT are correct to bill you and Sky are not?
Or did you just switch your calls to Sky, leaving your line rental with BT?
You haven't looked at your bank statements in 18m?

Sorry its just the extra packages I want back . My calls were switched to sky yet I was still paying for calls and extra packages to BT. I did look at my bank statements just never noticed the BT one. Yes my fault I know.

So all BT should have been charging was the line rental?

Yes ... Does it make sense now . Was on hold for 20 mins and my house phone battery died. Will try later.

  • Did you phone BT and tell them to reduce the package to just line rental? If you did then they should have a record of the call if nothing else and you should be able to claim back something, if you didnt then you will have to rely on them being nice and giving you a goodwill payment. After all while Sky could move you calls, or even move the line rental, they cant make an alteration to the actual BT account.

    Drunkstar raises the key issue.

You had line rental, friends and family mobile and 'a few other packages' with BT and then you asked Sky to take over your calls.

Did you ask BT to cancel the F&F mobile etc.? If you didn't, they will have continued to supply them and you're still liable to pay for them.

Bear in mind that, now that your calls go via Sky Talk, you will be charged by BT for Caller Display and/or basic 1571 (if you use them) because you are not making the necessary number of calls via BT to get them free.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

But how can you close the account if you still take your line rental from BT?
