Bald tyres on a written off car.

What happens next will depend on whether the Insurer sends out a motor engineer/assessor. Some insurers will accept a picture of the wreck from the recovery agent/garage/bodyshop if they are tied to the Insurer and payout. If they send someone out they may spot the bald tyres and investigate further which could lead to a reduced payout or none at all.The man without a signature.0

Interesting people mentioning lower offers. Can't see it really myself an 8k car with 2 bald is worth maybe £200 less than a 8k car with new tyres. Not quite the same as a car without a MOT.
The £200 is the reduction you'd get if the accident had happened in the dry so the tyres didn't cause or contribute to the accident.
In the wet where the tyres did cause or contribute then they could reject the entire claim.0 -
great.hopefully they can breath life into some poor sod who gets mown down by a bald tyre equipped driving idiot
just like the PC that was letting ne off with a warning because it was Christmas day, I was in the right so i told him to issue the ticket and id see him in court.
!!!!!! are the police doing, i know we !!!!! at camera vans and hiding round bends, but when a vehicle has 2 bald tyres it's an accident waiting to happen, if there had been any person or property involved and the insurers refused to pay where would the compo come from, maybe the car drivers home would need to be sold.Div 1 Play Off Winners 2007

Knowing if your tyres are legal or not is part of the driving test nowadays. Sorry but I have no sympathy for those driving on slicks. Hopefully a lesson would be learned if insurance refused to pay up.0

It's not, it's an accident (or more appropriately a incident) that did happen.0 -
UPDATE.....
Much to everyone's surprise the insurance have paid out no questions asked, all we can conclude is that the tyres were not actually illegal, just very close or the insurers did not look.
The insurers first offer was accepted no questions asked.0
