Bald tyres on a written off car.
A friends wife wrote off her car at the weekend.
The rear tyres were bald and can be squarely blamed for the accident.
Lost it on a corner on wet roads.
Are we correct to assume that the insurance company will payout nothing?
Luckily no one else involved or hurt.

There's a high probability when it comes to light in the vehicle inspectors reports. That or the payout will be really low and I think that's great justice. Be lucky the police didn't get involved - could be 3 points and £2000 fine per tyre.0 -
Its £2500 per tyre actually, but the police have chosen not to prosecute.0

I guess depends how much the claim is or what the car is worth, they may offer a lower settlement figure due to the car not being road worthy.0

Interesting people mentioning lower offers. Can't see it really myself an 8k car with 2 bald is worth maybe £200 less than a 8k car with new tyres. Not quite the same as a car without a MOT.0

Indeed, the advantage of living in a close nit community0 -
Its an interesting one. I guess it depends on whether the insurance company is aware that the accident occured because the car was unroadworthy and illegal. If they do know this then I wouldn't hold out any hopes of getting a penny.0

Nothing to do with the value of the tyres, a condition of insurance is that your car is road legal and maintained to an appropriate standard.
This car clearly wasnt thus resulting in an accident. Luckily nobody was hurt!0 -

TBH, I think its right. The OPs friends wife has written off the car and most likely lost out completely on it. There's punishment enough on its own and likely to be far higher than a magistrate would give out.0 -

No, they'll offer nothing or next to nothing because the policyholder was in breach of the terms of the policy.0
