No, my 13 weeks is not up until this Friday (to the day). The mortgage interest relief is paid once the DWP has all the required details from the lender (and any previous lenders if they so require).

The letter they send out is a bit confusing though. The letter mentions the amount of the award, but then goes on to state that this will be taken from your benefits and passed direct to the lender. At no point does it make it clear that the award is initially added to your benefits and then deducted, so gives the wrong impression that you will be having your benefits reduced, when in fact, you won't.

Anyway, scanned & sent the E-commerce manager forms, so will have the possibility of an interview in the near future.
Today is also the closing-date for another job I have applied-for, so that may be another avenue back to higher earnings.

Well, work is so-so. Nearly every job I started needed parts that should have been available, but needed ordering in.

Tools supplied are not enough to undertake some of the repairs needed, so had to order a basin wrench, masonary drill bits and even a stanley knife.

1 week on, and the e-commerce manager role is but a distant dream.

The handyman role is enjoyable, but I have noticed a total lack of willingness to communicate.
I have come to quickly realise that when they start a conversation with "I don't know if anyone told you, but....." it usually means that something that needed doing, but no one told me anout is now an urgent job rather than one that could have been done in good time if only they had mentioned it when they should.

Still having issues with parts though. As part of my on-going training, I was shown the boiler room today and discovered a stash of strip light bulbs. I can't fathom-out my predecessor's logic. He seams to have stashed bulbs and bits all over the place with no logic to his methods.

Been a while since I was last updating my diary.

Still working as a handyman. Finally got WTC sorted out so have a total weekly wage that is higher then it would have been had I got the e-commerce manager's role.

Also starting to build an emergency fund whilst still being able to more than meet my outgoings.

Earned a few quid for myself by renewing my dad's home insurance via TCB, then renewing my car insurance via the same site.
Just got to sit and wait for the cashback to clear.

Also should have some cashback from Argos after I had to replace my mobile phone.

All training to do with work is also complete and I should get paid for this over the next 2 weeks.

    Just to update things.

Got all my training paid for in one hit rather than over the two weeks they had originally told me.
Also, had to go and buy some ariel leads for work, so went to the local Co-Op and got the divi points for them.
Will be going back later this week to obtain a TV wall mounting braket for a resident, so will earn myself a few more divi points. Luckily, these do not show on the till receipt, so they will never know.

Whilst my current role is going well, I have been approached with regards to another much higher role about 1 mile closer to home. Will accept an interview if offered, as it will give me a chance to look around the factory and decide whether or not the job is for me.

My emergency fund is growing nicely and I also have enough in my main account to survive a change to monthly paid work if that were to happen.

Well, what an interesting end to the week. Had a phonecall from an Agency on Wed. regarding a permanent job for a much higher pay rate than I am currently on.

Interview was arranged for after work on Friday.

Friday arrived and when I checked my phone, I had had a missed call. Luckily the caller had left me a voicemail. Turned-out to be my old boss asking if I was looking for work as he had six months worth to offer me.

Attended the interview but not impressed with the manager's attitude so won't be taking the job.

  • Must feel great to be so much in demand, patman:j

Something that's just right for you will come along eventually. At least you have a salaried job while you're waiting.

Haven't updated this diary for a while so better do it justice.

Since my last posting, the handyman role has come to an abrupt end, but I was back in work within 10 days on a 12-week contract back in the role I did last year.

This role comes to a natural end on October 24th so am begining to angle for a permanent contract based on the fact that the work is there, so there is a position that needs filling.

On the financial side, my '£1,000 emergency fund' thread has 134 members all supporting each other in an attempt to save £1,000 for emergencies. Some of us (myself included) have now reached the target. But this dosn't mean we stop saving. In fact, I have an account with another Bank that I am attempting to build another £1,000 fund in.
