New job, new beginnings.

I live roughly half-way between Stanway and Marks Tey. I have noticed that there is another user who lives in Halstead on one of the other forum threads, so looks like Essex is beginning to get some good representation on MSE.
Anyway, back to the work front.
On my first day, I was informed that if I spotted breaches of H&S I should report them.
Well, so far I have seen (but not reported) -
A man sitting on a 12ft long pallet of parts being loaded length-ways by forklift in to the back of a Sprinter van (the man was acting as a counterbalance to stop the load tipping forward). This was also witnessed by senior management who simply went "I don't believe what I'm seeing. I'm off before I end-up witnessing an accident".
Someone standing on the back of the forklift (a side-loader with reach) to act as extra ballast.
Numerous people walking under loads suspended on the forklift.
On the plus side, I have had a follow-up call about the stores/forklift job I went for last week. The same site also now has a 3 month+ vacancy for a labourer (same pay as other job) to wash/polish the lorries and fix/service aircraft landing mats (strips of perforated steel that are used to for runways and roadways).
Still got to wait until end of August to hear from the utility co. about the technician job.Never Knowingly Understood.

Well, my plans for 6 NSDs on the bounce came grinding to a halt. Got home from work and had a bath. As I sat on the toilet seat to remove my boots the hinge on the seat broke.
When looking closely at it, it was only a 3mm mild steel pin (not really up to the job). So it was off to Homebase to check-out their range of loo seats.
Spent £18 on a fancy slow-closing seat with large heavy duty hinges. Only one problem. The seat auto-closes as soon as you open it so it is not possible to simply leave it up.Never Knowingly Understood.

Been a busy last 6 days. Having worked some overtime, I decided to upgrade my PC, so spent £270 (on a CC) on a 2nd-hand HP tower and a nice LG LED monitor.
The plan was to replace the Windows 8 HDD with the one from my old PC, however, due to the new PC having 'Secure Boot' enabled in the BIOS, it would not pick-up the Win7 HDD.
Next issue was that my keyboard is one with a fingerprint reader built-in which the UEFI based BIOS would not pick up, so I could not get in to BIOS. Having spent £11 on a basic keyboard, I was in. Next issue. Win7 crashed on boot so back to using the Win8 drive to attempt to obtain motherboard drivers for Win7.
Having spent an hour or so searching, it appears that there are no Win7 drivers available.
So, I have decided to go with Win8 (with a few mods such as 'Classic Shell8') and so have spent quite some time installing all the programs from my old PC on the new one.
This has been made easier by the fact that that some of my files are stored in Dropbox and some of my games come from Stream & Origin, so just a case of 'install & go'.
The hardest thing so far ?. Getting my Canon MP620 working. Downloading and installing the drivers failed, but I then found a useful install script on Canon's Asia that worked a treat.Never Knowingly Understood.

2nd posting of the day. Whilst I was creating the earlier post, I was also on livechat to a chap at Origin trying to merge both my accounts.
Due to a mis-read by me, he merged all my stuff from my new account onto my old account which was linked to a now-dead email address, thus stopping me accessing all my games.
Luckily, he managed to fix the issue by changing the email address so all is well with the world (well, it will be once I have finished downloading the entire 'Command and conquer' series along with FM12 & men of war).Never Knowingly Understood.

Saw an amazing site yesterday. Both the Lancaster Bombers flew over the factory where I work. They were doing a fly-past over a war memorial to a crashed Lancaster. This just happened to be 500m from the factory.
What a wonderful and priviledged site it was to see 2Never Knowingly Understood.
