insurance question, football damaged my bonnet

My car was hit by a stray football from a football match last Saturday which resulted in a small dent on my bonnet.
The football club is requesting me to write a letter to the club and to notify them of the date and time when the incident occurred, the club has a public liability insurance which I presume are going to pay for the repair.
I need to know if I should inform my own insurance company of the damage and let them sort it out? I am a bit worried if I do I may loose my no claims for next year.
To be honest I am expecting problems in getting the repair work done through the club's own insurance

Tell your insurer, but make it clear it's for information only & you don't want them to do anything.
If problems arise later you can ask them to sort it.

Deal directly with the other party and their insurer but as bryanb says, inform your insurance company as a matter of course.

There's no need to inform you insurer at this stage, unless you want them to do something. Leave it to the third-party insurer for now and inform your insurer next time you renew, should you feel the need. ;)

    Thanks for all the replies.
If I decide not to inform my insurance company of this incident and I do have problems later on with the third party insurance not paying out, would there be a problem with my insurance company accepting this claim because I have not reported the incident within a certain time limit?

Then read your insurance T&Cs to see what you are required to do.

If you dont inform them, thre could be repercussions in the future.
All insurance companies use a central database, better safe than sorry. When you speak to
them check that its not going to impact on future polcies.
I am with the Coop and my no fault accident was not impacted on my renewal.

I know what mine says and I think you need to read yours as most insurers only require updated information at renewal time.

In the end I notified my insurance company just to be on the safe side. They explained that it would not affect my no claims unless I did make a claim through my insurance, but the incident needed to be logged.
I just hope things go smoothly with the claim going through the club's own insurance.
