A busy shopping day today! I went to Ethel Austin (non-food), Home Bargains (non food), Aldi £25 on food and Asda £35 on food. So I spent around £60 on groceries which means I've only got £10 left for next week...
However, it is half-term next week, so the only food shopping I will need will be bread and fruit/veg as I've got tons of food now. I'm determined to do it.:D
  • Doing pretty well so far this month - I plan to move any money left in our account at the end of the month over to our savings account.

LIDL has some great stuff - one thing there that has saved us lots is that we used to buy sandwich meat every week for Mr EL - it was usually around £1.60 each week.

Now from LIDL we pay £1.39 for twice as much sandwhich meat and we freeze half, so it lasts 2 weeks which is a small but constant saving which we will continue.

We also no longer buy branded tinned tomatoes - the value ones from Sommerfield and also the ones from LIDL are great and just £0.15 a can. LIDL have fruited sliced bread at around £0.55 too which is a saving.

Yes it can! In fact this is the only really successful way to freeze cheese without it crumbling, imo.

I think a few of us are falling foul of the five (or four and a half) week month! My solution is to check out the darkest corners of the larder and the deepest depths of the freezer to see what treasures lurk. The next couple of weeks will need more than a fair measure of inventiveness but with plenty of cheap pasta in (£1 for a mega big bag at Asda) and lots of rice (bought in bulk at Costcos a couple of months ago) tinned tomatoes (6 for £1 at Asda) and spices/herbs together with the odd pots of leftovers in the freezer we should get by. Tuna is always good in pasta bakes and the dried soya mince that Sainsburys sell for about 70p if I remember right, will make lots of bolognaise sauces and currys.

    Good luck everyone.

Had a splurge in Lidl's at the weekend as we were out of juices. My OH doesn't drink tea or coffee so goes through soft drinks quite quickly.

Also got a few bottles of wine and a box of beers which will probably last the rest of the month now. This helps as we have got a few get togethers and need to take a bottle along.

Were going to go out for a meal on Saturday to celebrate my new job

But decided to stay in and save the money. :A

So, still on track. Fingers crossed.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
