October 06 Grocery Challenge

As i said before i get paid (benefits) every two weeks so that's my challenge..
got paid a few days ago and done quite a lot of the shopping. so far the groceries have come in at £54.23... and i set a budget of £80, so I'm pleased with that. There'll be more expenditure between now and 24th - things like milk and so on - but that's the majority of it done so I'm pleased with that.
the flip side of that is that instead of saving its mostly gone out on other things! some much needed new boots (£14.99), a new lead for the dog (the much knotted oft broken rope we were using as a temporary stop gap for 4 months is getting shorter and shorter, it had to be done) at £10.50 were the worst two offenders. I've also spent £31.76 on christmas presents and food - almost half of that on the ingredients to make mincemeat for mom and me (some of which i'll get back as mom always offers the cost of the ingredients), but of course with making the cake and pudding some of the ingredients will go towards that, so its really not as bad as it sounds.
And on top of that i've *still* managed to put £23 aside for xmas - so my xmas kitty in the bank is looking a bit healthier with some way to go!
YAY me!! :T :T :T :T

Hello!
I never post on here, but always read and keep my signature updated, even with milk (and yesterday, 2 x Fab ice lollies, whoopsidaisy!). Myself and my OH are trying to get our shopping down from around £55p/w to £30... though, to be honest, we've only lived together 5 months and the £55 p/w was predominantly us stocking up on herbs, spices and condiments. Anyway, so far so good. I do worry that I bore him with the same old 10 recipes on rotation though! does everyone else do that?! x0 -
I'm nearly halfway through my month now - not doing too badly at nearly £35 from a budget of £90 for the month. Week 1 I didn't seem to need too much, so didn't spend much. Week 2 was a bit higher, but I needed to replace a lot of basic storecupboard stuff - flour, rice, pasta, washing up liquid and other bits and pieces - so hopefully that will last a while. I guess I'm cheating slightly though as I had quite a lot of stuff in the freezer before I started the challenge!
I now find myself making a conscious effort not to pop out to the shops for the odd item here or there and just 'making do' with what I have, so think that's helping keeping the spending down.0 -
Thats it. Feeling really insired by all the messages. As a new person to the site I will probably muck up but here goes.

I'm in again. Last month was 14 quid over budget - not too bad I guess.
This month I am going try to try to stick to 100 pounds on food and dog food and 20 on toiletries and cleaning stuff.
I'm starting from tomorrow and will end on Sat 28th October (4 weeks).
This is just for me and OH and a greedy little dog.
Hello!
Managed to get to the 14th without having to go shopping and have been to ALDI for the first time to do weekly shop - only spent 15 quid!
Hopefully this will see me through to end of the week with teh stuff that's in the freezer and cupboards.0 -
Hi All, not doing to well, already blown my budget of £200 and still 2 weeks left!
went to morrisons today and spent £48 so that takes me to £208, but i've got a full freezer etc as got lots of offers, not too upset as I usually spend around £350-£400 so i reckon as i,m well stocked up can get throught rest of the month on another £40-50 max, so this will still be an improvement on usual and its my 1st month!:oGrocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!
March 14 £500 / spent £488.45 :j0 -
I came in under budget this week, $86. New week starts tomorrow. Kids are back at school and I have some supplies in so should be able to do well this week also.
Thank you to MSE contributers who are a great help to keep me motivated to take care with my spending.0 -

Looks like things are kicking in.

(And DH got Ben and Jerry's for £2.00 in Asda - I'll go and have a celebratory bowl. Diet? What diet? Don't know anything about it!;) )"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
I posted a few days ago to say I was worried I only had £31.55 left until November well good news is I havn't spent any of that yet as my mum (bless her) bought us a few things this week.
The bad news is OH's sister and her family are coming to stop for the weekend, so need to buy more than usual there will be 3 kids and 4 adults to feed. For the whole weekend i'm going to make a shepards pie with loads of veg, apple crumble, flapjacks, bread rolls. I have got all the ingredients for these things just need to buy a bit of fruit and veg and some ham and cheese. But also need things like toilet rolld and nappies and enough stuff to last us till the end of the month. Not sure if I can do it I am really going to give it a big go though!
Wish me luck0
