i have been living in Spain for about 4 years now with my partner. we have since split up & i am being forced to move back to the UK with my 2 small dogs.
i will be moving back to the manchester area, i have very little money & will have no job! I have never claimed housing benefits - is there any way to contact someone who can help me before i move back over?
otherwise i will be moving back over with nowhere to live!
can anyone help?! :eek::eek::eek:

If you pass the Habitual Residence Test and fulfill the other criteria you may be eligible for JSA and LHA on your return but nobody is going to provide you with accommodation ready for you to move into!
Do you own a property in Spain?0 -
no i do not own property in Spain & never registered as a resident - i still have mobile phone contract & bank accounts in UK.
oh, no i don't expect to walk into accommodation - just to get the ball rolling as it were on the help i may be entitled to...
any email addresses etc anyone could PM me or anything? - calling from here would cost a fortune - money i haven't really got to spend.0 -
Did you make payments into the Spanish Social Security system? JSA is exportable if you are entitled in Spain.
I guess you must have somewhere to lay your head when you get back otherwise you won't do very well on the habitual residence test.0 -
i did work in Spain, but contracted only for the last 6 months...
HRT? I lived in the UK for 19 years (from birth)... i decided to try setting up in another country as he UK was in a bad way and now i have to prove that i will live & stay in the UK - madness!
i am coming back to the UK to stay, live, work etc...
i am trying to arrange a rental for a month or so until i can get myself settled - if i can get a job I wont need the benefits - i just want the intel & option just in case...0 -
The UK is in a far worse state now than it was four years ago.0

I doubt that you paid very much into the Social Security system in the UK if you left when you were 19.
I think it is absolutely right that there are checks in place to ensure people are not coming back to the UK simply to take advantage of our generous benefit system.0 -
i know that, i keep my eye on the news etc... but i cannot live here anymore... too many memories, can't stand some of the people around here & just doesn't feel right being here - i have put up with a lot of crap over the years and its finally taken its toll.0

..
It's not a question of living, staying or working in the UK - all of which you're free to do. It's a question of whether you're back in the UK just to claim benefits and it seems reasonable to me that these things are checked out thoroughly.0 -

i was working since i was 16 so 3 years - oh i totally agree with you but i am a UK citizen & am simply coming back.
i know people take the mick out of the benefits system this is not what i want to do - i just might need help getting myself sorted. i have been on the verge of depression but have kept face for many years - i would not be seeking anything that i do not need, just as say to get myself settled again.
