My point is that those who would gazunder/accept a gazump will be the losers in the end as their lack of moral character will be their undoing in the long run. If you encounter people like this the best thing to do it just have no further dealings with them and move on.

This really isn't the way the world works.

I know it aint nice, but I would be gutted if I thought I had spent tens of thousands more on something than I needed to. I think it would prey on my mind what I could have done with all that extra cash. - Nice car, once in a lifetime holiday, deposit on a house for one of the kids, even give it to charity etc etc.
No I think on balance I would rather be well off than liked by a complete stranger.

Yeah. All the great civilisations were built on honesty and integrity and nobody got screwed over on the journey.

You could con an old lady out of her pension. You could do it legally, by selling her something she didn't need for an overinflated price. You would have a nice car, and at least it wouldn't be praying on your mind that you had missed out on all that cash.

Presuming the pension was cash and the thing being sold to her is your house?

Unless you are a complete fool, you wouldn't have made an offer of tens of thousands more in the first place.

And in any case most people typically would be very unlikely to have any sizeable extra cash to fret about; much more likely to be a small amount extra from Salary each month due to lower mortgage payments.

To go back to the OP, once an offer is made, accepted and the conveyancing done to the point of exchange it is wholly unacceptable to the majority of people for any party to start altering the deal. The legalities are a different thing.

My answer to this behaviour would be simple, either you go ahead at the agreed sum or the deals off! Same as I would say to an EA who came up with a gazumper for me - no the deal is made!

This me, me, me attitude from people is what is dragging this country down ever further, and needs to be stood up to if the nation is ever going to recover from the present mess.

It must be pretty lonely up there!?

Well for the record, I do look down from my high horse at people like you and I do feel superior.

Not everyone is in the position of being able to take a cut of several thousand pounds from a previously agreed deal at short notice without suffering hardship.

There is nothing wrong with hard bargaining but your stance is basically dishonest. If you are happy with your character then fine but I would imagine it to be a lot lonelier down there than where I am.
