  • We all know the legal position - that isn't in question. The offer isn't binding until exchange. My point is that those who would gazunder/accept a gazump will be the losers in the end as their lack of moral character will be their undoing in the long run. If you encounter people like this the best thing to do it just have no further dealings with them and move on.

    How quaint.
  • Fast forward 5 yrs or more, once all the wannabe buyers on this thread have bought.
They'll be able to stomach a reduction on sale of their properties at the last minute as they are so for it now to happen.

    True.
But in the case of Gazundering, you could be £30k better off and the only person you have offended is a stranger who you are never likely to meet again. Bit different.

Fair point. But to me its black and white.
  • Nothing personal, strictly business.

Why not contact your MP to get the system changed if you don't like it?

I've got no problem with the existing system, I just accept that there are wasters and weasels in all walks of life. But folks with these characteristics tend to be the ones lacking a long term holistic view (perfect fodder for the likes of the multi-level marketers and Inside Trackers).

It must be pretty lonely up there!?
This is not financial nor legal nor property advice. Consult a paid professional if in doubt.

In the OPs example, why not take away the possibility of meeting "wasters and weasels" by adding a deposit system to the housebuying process?

Not really. There are plenty of us up here. I would like to hope it is actually the majority.
