Do you have children? When my Daddy lost his car keys once my mum made me and my sister search until we found them. I got bored and wasn't really looking sensibly when I decided to search his toolbox, and there they were!

Alternatively, they're always in the last place you look. So look under the bed and stop looking.

try the inside lining of jackets - I nearly always have holes in the pockets of coats and jackets and have had keys get lost inside the lining of the damn thing!

I have this performance regularly with my OH. Ive found them on the outside window cill, the driveway, the lawn, inside the garage, in his pants drawer, under his pillow, down the side of the sofa, in one of his work boots, on the loo seat and in one case inside the cement mixer. I had a search yesterday and going on the theory that I read recently to search hard in an area up to 18 inches from where they SHOULD be, I actually found them in the drawer of the desk which is below the key hook where he should hang them. Id never have guessed it and I actually got an outing yesterday afternoon for finding them so swiftly this time. I did get those fob things which you can track down with a unit but he lost the unit you need to track it.

Get OH to turn her bag upside down. I once lost the car keys and I went through my bag several times, OH went through my bag, my friends went through my bag and none of us could find them, had to get a lift home for the spares. THEN when we got in, I turned my bag upside down and out they jangled. Worth trying.

They're still lost, got the day off tomorrow to look for them.

I only posted it as a joke, didn't think it was appropriate to bump the thread just to say "still lost" If I find them I'll be sure to let you all know where they were and how many times we had already searched that location.

Grateful for all replies, some of which are quite useful.

    Found the car keys! :j

They had been placed on top of some junk mail on top of a box full of dvds which sits infront of a tool box on top of which sits the DVD player. The keys had fallen off the paper down into the gap between the tool box and the DVD storage box. The junk mail then returned to its original position and covered the gap. Keys were out of sight. It was the first time of searching that location, but had searched nearby already, i.e. under the bed & under the table that the DVD player & TV sit on.

Through the process of looking we now have very tidy
    Kitchen cupboards
    Fridge/Freezer
    Car - been hoovered throughout
Recycling has all been taken to the be recycled and carefully sorted through
The piles of garden cuttings has all been bagged & sent to be composted
Most of the stuff in a certain 'corner' has been sorted through and cleaned up
other stuff waiting to go into the attic has now gone into the attic

I've decided to tie a 2 foot long, thick red boot lace to my keys which should help to spot them.

Now I can enjoy the rest of my day off work

    Thanks everyone
