What is the going rate for birthday gifts these days?

My 3 year old has an invitation to a party for twin girls so I need two similar value gifts. She's only been at nursery school for a week so I know nothing about the girls (don't even know what they look like) and both my kids are younger than them so I haven't had to shop for their age group yet.

I think Toys are better gifts for any age group kids....

Am I reading this one right.....youre suggesting a couple of dog leads for presents for classmates at school?...the mind boggles....

LOL - what kr15snw wrote made perfect sense to me when I read it :D

My understanding is that its a cuddly stuffed dog on a rigid lead. Maybe its just having 3 kids has tuned my mind into deciphering comments like things!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I try to stick to £5 for nursery friends and a bit more for closer friends. DS had several birthdays to go to in Dec and one was for a little girl. I had no idea what to buy but someone pointed out something in Tesc0 which I thought was perfect. Its a little mermaid in a shell that you take in the bath. The mermaid comes out of the shell and you then keep the toy which then changes colour in water. Not explaining myself very well but it was £2.97 and I added some chocs to it to make a lovey wee pressie. Equally I have used the Arg0s 2 for £15 if I have been struggling.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I won, I won, I won!
my 2 are now almost 7 and 9 and I try to stick to around £5 - simply cant afford more although I do spend a bit more on DS's best friend as they have been best friends their whole lives
  • I haven't had a chance to read the other replies, but I would say Maxi Hama Beads.
  • If buying for little girls - all little girls LOVE jewellery! And Primark is amazing for very cheap and very chunky big pink/gold/silver/sparkly jewllery - perfect for little princesses!
