Birthday gift for 4 year old girls

What is the going rate for birthday gifts these days?

My 3 year old has an invitation to a party for twin girls so I need two similar value gifts. She's only been at nursery school for a week so I know nothing about the girls (don't even know what they look like) and both my kids are younger than them so I haven't had to shop for their age group yet.

  • I don't know about 4 year old girls but my 3 and a bit year old girl is currently loving etch a sketch type things and anything to do with drawing, especially erasable markers on a wipe board. Also make believe dress up stuff like a doctor's coat, stethoscope, glasses, thermometer etc.
  • How much do you want to spend?
  • I think she is asking.

You cannot buy anything for £1 and £10 seems a bit too much so maybe around a fiver ?
  • It seems the going rate varies.

Bit hard with two I suppose. I hope they spend twice as much on pressies for others! :D

Argos have 2 toys for £15, maybe that is above your budget? I don't know.

maybe a few cheap board games, sketch pad ,crayons and a little box of sweets if you try pondshops you may be able to get a good few gifts for a fiver
  • My DD is 4 soon, we are having a party and I guess parents will bring gifts.

TBH i hope the rate is around a fiver, we have 16 coming and really do not want people spending silly money.Playdoh, crayons. paper, chalks, pencils that sort of thing. she is also very into Dora and animals so a little pocket money toy whch is about £5 like this http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-7024.aspx would suit her well.

yep, I agree, about £5 per child is the going rate while they're at primary school/nursery.
  • I think when my son was that age I got a skipping rope and a sticker book or similar for girls' parties. About £3 or £4 each. Or a Mr Man book.

I doubt they're expecting much from people they don't know.

Maybe a buy one get one free on a couple of picture books, like The Smartest Giant and A Squash and a Squeeze for example?

Actually, M&S do some nice books for kids and usually have offers on.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

I always spend £10, maybe £15 on v. close friends of the kids, or my friends kids.

For twins though, would spend £5 each with it being two. Have a look on argos, you will find things reduced to 1/2 price which I would pick up. Again stationary, board game etc, or if its a boy Argos may have some figures half price. The disney store has a small sale on at the minute as well.

You could buy one game that they have to play together with, like a Snakes and Ladders or Ludo set.

When my boys were little, I used to pay £3-5 per present for class mates they didn't really know, and little more for a special friend.

They get invited to so many parties, that it's worth keeping a little present box if you see cheap bits and pieces cheap when you are out. I once saw a good deal on Action Man, so the next few boys who had a party all got an Action Man :D

Also keep a box of cheap cards and wrapping paper in the box, as sometimes the invitations can be short notice.
Here I go again on my own....
