Why I never bother with travel insurance
Comments
-
I reckon this thread has run its course - there are too many people biting at nobjock's comments - and he is thriving on it.
I personally could not give a toss one way or the other if nobjocki does or doesn't buy travel insurance - that's his prerogative. To be honest, if he is as wealthy as he states he is, I just cannot see what the problem is by paying out a few quid for insurance before a trip or annually for that matter.
The sensible contributors on this thread will pay for travel insurance as do I, and as far as I am concerned, it is cheap at the price for the peace of mind alone.
Even if I was immensely rich - I would still be aggrieved at having to pay out a few hundred thousand dollars for medical bills (which can easily happen in the US) for the sake of stumping up a few quid prior to travelling.
It is not just the financial aspect to consider when something serious goes wrong on a trip. A colleague of mine dropped down dead on holiday and although the repatriation of the body was covered by the insurance, all of the formalities and arrangements were undertaken by the insurer’s medical teams/agents which removed a lot of the grief and hassle from his obviously already distressed widow.
If we were talking about forking out hundreds of pounds for travel insurance, then some may think there is a valid argument here, but my view is that good travel insurance is cheap at the price.
What is strange however, why someone who purports to be 'considerably rich' bothers with contributing to a website that is primarily for saving money - or maybe he just likes to peasant bash!

The sentence that I've highlighted makes the most sense I've read so far on this thread. :T :T :T
And it shows just how short-sighted Nobjocki's view of travel insurance is.0 -
Well done, dpassmore. :T :T :T
Excessive use of smilies is a sure sign of a dull person seeking attention.
I just feel sorry that in your sad life someone who mentions they don't believe in travel insurance warrants so much excitement.
But if it brings something into your mundane existence I'm happy for you.
