Suspension without getting dismissed?

Does anyone know anyone (this could include yourself) who has been suspended on full pay, had the investigation and didn't get dismissed? If so, what was the punishment?

If you look at my OP about my current suspension - I am worried about getting dismissed. I was dismissed from a collections job 2.5 years ago after terminating calls as I had a severe ear infection and couldn't hear the soft speaking customers.

I know about 10 others - former colleagues and friends who all were suspended and got the sack.

I am asking is suspension meaning dismissal?

Suspension is a neutral act to allow an investigation to take place without alerting others who may also be under investigation (and probably are after you gave their names to the manager). It does not mean you will be dismissed. But it is a possibility and possibly even a probability - the employer is obviously taking this very seriously.

As stated, suspension is not an indication of guilt, its time for the investigation.

I have suspended 2 people from my company when I had some allegations made about them. One was re-instated as I understood what happened and it was due to lack on training. The other I sacked as he falisfied his timesheets and I could prove he was not at work when he said he was.

I was unfairly dismissed. I had an ear infection which meant I couldn't hear soft speaking customers. I was off sick the week before with it and the ear infection came back without any warning.

So did you take your employer to a tribunal?

I doubt it, because if I had an ear infection that suddenly struck with no warning (rolls eyes), I would immediately speak to a colleague and ask them to take the call that I was on (as I did once when I had a coughing fit) and then advise my manager that I needed to go home sick.

Honestly, Jumpy, you really are full of it. No employer would sack someone for hanging up on a call ONCE if they were ill and explained.

Not the case, here, though, because

Calls plural. So not just one, because the call was impossible to continue with, but clearly more than one. And presumably the problem wasn't highlighted to their supervisor after the first, or second, terminated call so that the employer could do something to help.

This poster seems to have a ginormous chip on their shoulder and feels that they should be allowed to behave exactly as they please within the workplace, and that their employer should overlook any misdemeanours because "everyone else is doing it" or "I'm the star employee and they can't cope without me" or "I've a disability (but it's not too bad that I can't use it to my advantage)" or any other of a host of excuses they've come up with.

I wouldn't want anyone to lose their job, but I'm thinking that jumpycheese1 needs a massive reality check - and they might just be getting that in the not too distant future.

I felt fine that day when I started work. In the course of 90 mins my ear ache returned and I told my supervisor about it and she weren't bothered. I was there for about 3.5 hours before getting another supervisor (mine was on a tea break) and said I couldn't cope with the pain. I think I terminated about 2 dozen calls in that time.

Sorry that my prev post in this thread looked like I only terminated ONE call and got suspended. The odd call could be suspended by accident as the hold and release buttons on the phone were next to each other.

  • My husband had a seven day suspension and received a final written warning at the end of it.....he kicked up hell during the suspension as he knew he was in the right......5 months later he was suspended again for something completely different and on that occasion was dismissed.

This was after hubby had worked their for 15 years though with an unmarked record and in the year before his dismissal (and the period covering the TWO suspensions ) a new manager came into the company who took an instant dislike to hubby......
