You can say that because you have people will to help you out for free. If it cost you £50 or more each time to call someone out, you might become a little more focussed. :)

Perhaps. I too help people out for free in my areas of expertise but I don't have a hissy fit everytime someone puts themselves in the position of needing help.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

Maybe it was just a rant....but these people keep you in a living.

I quite understand that people need to be educated in how to keep there systems dust free, and healthy, however there are people out there who are scared stiff of opening up there own systems and doing these jobs because they feel that they may just break it or ruin it,thats why they come to people like you.

you can clean there systems and offer advice on what to do and what not to do,whether they heed your advice is up to them.

I was one of those people who would not even contemplate opening up my system,i was shown how to do it and now i clean my own Pc,and i have read through the techie forum on here for a long time now and i have followed very valuable advice given on here,to the point that i have learnt a lot and am now more confident in what i am doing,i am in no way an expert and i would not advise someone else on here in how to maintain or fix there computers.

Im sure you are good at what you do,if there were no technophobes in this country, well you may still be trucking and chomping on your yorkie bar.

Thanks for making fun of my arthritic middle finger that sometime hits a key twice.

There’s a bit of sarcasm going on here.

When I asked Donnie to explain something he had suggested I do to correct a problem, He got all agitated and told me to ask down the pub instead. Which I did!. But after a few hours of discussion and a few pints I still didn’t have the answer but didn’t care anymore.

    Cheers everybody.

    SO WHY WASTE ENERGY!

If it has a genuine copy of Windows, you get the serial number before you wipe the HDD then you can reinstall it properly.

Yes, I do, but not much help if it's the HD that's packed up.:)

Also you've obviously not come across those mass produced machines which use a manufacturers serial number, updates etc all work fine, all tickety boo.

But then when you come to reinstall the saved serial will not validate and you have to use the serial on the COA.

I've had this happen with Packard Bell, Toshiba and HP.
    Move along, nothing to see.
