OP, I must congratulate you on not allowing your "dyslexia" from posting very well worded posts.

    Is it selective dyslexia?

As the old saying goes...when you have dug deep enough..stop digging.

Can't you see that you are very unbelievable? You come up with the most pathetic excuses, I am amazed you have managed to keep a job this far. But I suppose you will carry on with the " woe is me"

Own up, and I suppose we , the tax paying workers, will be carrying you from now on when you start claiming the benefits YOU are entitled to as a model employee who can't work any more.

And as for grassing up your fellow workmates...how do you sleep at night?

That branch of the supermarket must have a mountain of unused carry bags due to over ordering

You are a thief, with sight problems and dyslexia and you think you are irreplaceable?...add delusional to the list of your ailments please!
  • Honesty is the best policy, be contrite and apologetic. Do not try to invent excuses for why you did what you did, certainly not the "I hit the 9 by mistake" one.

Good luck, hope it goes well for you, we all make mistakes. I do think it is wrong they even asked you to grass on coworkers (as mental states can make us do things we wouldn't normally do), chances are they already knew all of that anyway.

Sorry, but I think you are knackered. If you have medical conditions that make you unable to accurately use a till, you should not have been using self-service checkouts. "I didn't want to queue up" is not nearly a good enough reason for using them. If you try to play the disability card you will come across as making excuses and it won't wash.

You are easily replaceable - I work in a highly skilled job where it would take months for somebody to learn all the knowledge that only I know - however I am now leaving and I know that somebody will pick up this knowledge, because they will have to. The implication is that you seem to think your company would not exist if you had not been born, I'm afraid you are deluded.

Tell the truth, don't make pathetic excuses, don't try to convince them you are irreplaceable, and cross your fingers.
  • My OH works for a a supermarket and they are not allowed to serve themselves or if they have to, another member of staff has to sign the reciept to say that the transaction was all above board.

Would there not be something like this in place in most supermarkets to prevent theft and if so, surely they'll take into account that you broke that rule too?

I just also wanted to mention my sister once got caught giving me her staff discount in a shop she worked in she was suspended and went through a disiplinary but she didn't actually lose her job in the end. She admitted her actions and didn't try to make excuses - that is why I think she didn't lose her job.

I hope everything goes ok for you - I know it must be a stressful time but the only thing you can do is be honest face the consequences whatever they are and learn from the experience.

Start looking for a new job, with any luck you'll get something before your dismissed or return to a very uncomfortable work place.

You're in the wrong here, you tried to play the system, the system won so you have only yourself to blame, not your eye sight (I've not seen this system, but even with my eyes closed I can already guess how the numbers will be laid out and press 0 or 1 rather than 9). A defence of "but everybody else is doing it" shows you're only fit to follow which is fine for some job roles, but most of these job roles don't pay very well. I was diagnosed with "mild dyslexia" in primary school, sometimes I misread words, put letters or numbers in the wrong order, but I've never dialed 9 on a phone instead of 1 or 0 because of it!

Don't kid yourself, nobody's going to leave in protest if you're sacked, it very rarely happens in the real world and if they do your employer wont care, there's a thousand people out there eager to fill their shoes. In my last work place a number of people have been given notice of redundancy, including a friend and somebody who's worked for said employer for longer than I have been alive, everybody was upset, but nobody left in protest. I did leave a month earlier than I was planning to when I found out about this, which saved my friend from joining the dole queue, but I only left because I had a job lined up. Quitting your job without something lined up or a seriously good reason is stupid in this economy.

It may not be a big deal to you, but you've effectively been stealing from your employer which is never a good idea, the saying "Don't **** where you eat" springs to mind. Most employers don't care what you're stealing, it's the fact that you're stealing that bothers them, you're no value to them if they can't trust you, why would they trust you to ensure customers aren't stealing or exploiting loopholes if you're willing to do the same?

No offense to anybody who works in supermarkets, but I don't really think there's anybody that's going to be hard to replace, the pharmacist (if applicable), butcher, baker and fishmonger would probably be the hardest people to replace, working a checkout and engaging customers is not a highly skilled job. You may be great at your job, but they wont struggle to find somebody else to do your job.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it sounds like you need a reality check, you were stealing/committing fraud and you were caught, you're not the victim here. When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
