As the company have no evidence just your word that the item is missing and that you have left the shop before sorting this matter. They do not really even have to check their stock levels they are going out of their way to help.
It was really up to you to check the bag when the incident happened. As much as the person you spoke to on the phone was a little rude threatening with Trading Standards is going to get anyone's back up.
When you do go back to the shop don't 'complain most vocally' be polite don't raise your voice and don't threaten with Trading standards then you are more likely to get a successful outcome for a problem that the company has no liability for because you left the shop without checking.0 -
How much was the item worth and is there a reason why you didnt state it in your post.
What on earth trading standards have got to do with it I have no idea/
Someone made a mistake, it happens. When you go into the store, be polite, dont kick off,
if you kick off of course people are going to be off with you.
Hope you get it sorted.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I think I would find out the store Managers name,by phone,not the duty Manager,then go and see him.I find sports shop staff,generally, to be a very mixed bunch,some OK some useless.Explain about the inept staff,don't be vocal,see what happens.If you are lucky you will get the item returned,expecting any more than that with this company is futile.0

Fat mike Ashley probably isnt going to care because you didnt check your items before you left the shop..

Your right. It is.
But you , along with lots of posters do not like the advice given.
Your responsibility to check your goods and receipt but you chose not too..one of the famous 50 -

tbh I think it would have be an idea to have checked the bag after it was retrived but hindsight is always 20 :20.
Personally I would speak to the manager (would try phoning first to save you a journey) and POLITELY tell him / her what happened - basically there was confusion at the checkout with the other customer's bag and as a result you've basically lost an item due to this confusion.
You may be lucky and there is a member of staff who remembers the incident, which may mean that the manager may be inclined to give you a replacement as a guesture of goodwill2014 Target;

There are few people who can be blunt on this sight but most of the time there usually right and I'm afraid in this case there right.0
