:eek:I thought I had posrted this but I can't find it anywhere.

So I am reposting if anyone can help...

Hello people

I don't know if this is the right place to post!!

Just before holiday I paid my water bill across the counter at LLoyds banks.

When coming off hols I had a letter off Severn Trent to say that I still owed them £45.

I immediately got out my stamped receipt and saw to my horror that the wrong amount was written down....

Instead of £161.19 which was the correct amount, the counter clerk had put £116.19.

I know I didn't pay this amount has I had withdrawn the money out of the cashpoint. I clearly remember not having any change..
I went into the bank first thing monday morning. The lady who was on that day wasn't in.

Today she rang me saying there was no mistake, and she remembers me giving her £120. If I had done that I would have had a lot of changed. I never part pay any bill payments.

But I did this in cash She says for me to talk to the manager who is not in until a week on monday.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out if there was a mistake in cashing up etc..

Thanks

You won't know if there was a mistake cashing up as the bank are very unlikely to show you any of that information. The response you have had indicates that the cashier was not showing a significant difference in their till on the day as otherwise they would likely have agreed to credit you already following your explanation.

Evidence of your withdrawal and the time you made it might help support your case when you talk to the manager, although it is not definitive proof of the amount of cash handed over at the counter.

You might indicate that the fact that the amount wasn't queried at the counter also supports your case (assuming you handed the cashier a bill which had the £161.19 amount on it - any cashier with a bit of common sense in the situation Lloyds appear to be claiming happened would surely at least make a comment along the lines of "so your not paying the full bill amount mariecc then" or similar). Edit: I am assuming you filled in the payment slip amount yourself with the lower amount by mistake and you are suggesting that the cashier then wrote that same lower amount on your bill receipt? If you had written the higher amount on the payment slip, the cashier would have queried it or there would be a record of it; if you had left the payment amount blank the cashier most of the time also query it if the bill was presented with a different balance on it.

If there was no till difference and both the bank credit slip and your receipt show the lower amount, you are probably now largely relying on the bank manager's good will.

Good luck and I hope you get a positive outcome.

The best thing to do would be to speak to the branch manager.

The branch manager should be able to identify if the cashiers till had any discrepancies for that particular day.

If you have no joy you would need to start the complaints procedure:

  • That peeps the only problem is I didn't fill in the payment slip........

Have spoken to Severn trent today after receiving a letter from them.. Didn't understan the bit about data protection?

"Regrettable Severn trent is a third party, the bank has been unable to help us with this matter due to data proctection"

All I asked for was a copy of the payment slip that Llods say is return to severn trent....

and for me to go to lloyds to request a trace through the bank???

No idea and couldn't understand the answer on the phone!!!
