boots '1st uk hair home straightening kit'

ive recently seen this in boots, im dying to know if anyones used it-seems a bit dodgy to me as if you get the yuko system done it takes hrs, this is essentially the same thing (chemical that breaks hair bonds then realign them with straighteners) it sounds too good to be true and i can imagine some serious hair breakage occuring-opinions please?

i believe they actually intensely condition the hair as opposed to relax it like you would with African hair.

Either way, if it doesnt work or hair is damaged it would be pretty easy to get your money back/compensation from Boots.

I doubt its any worse than dying your hair

it is coolio-if youve heard of the yuko system, its a totally different process to dying-dying opens up the cuticle, and if it contains bleach it makes the hair more porous to accept the dye- chemical straightening actually breaks the protein bonds within the hair shaft, effectively destroying the hair if it is done incorrectly. then straighteners are applied to realign the protein bonds. i have to clarify this as chemical straightening imo is best left to a professional, as you can effectively damage your hair to an extent that it all snaps off-it doesnt condition it, so dont buy this as easy as you would a dye, carefully consider it first!

I used to buy home perm kits, just use it exactly as the instructions say but instead of putting curlers in, keep combing your hair straight (with a wide toothed comb) for the stated time. Cost - about £5 :D
    Bulletproof
  • Oh my god, I would love to try this product, its sounds like a godsend for all us curlie girlies! It may even improve the conditio of your hair if you straighten it every day.

I always fancied the Yuko system but could never afford it.

But if it goes wrong and your hair does fall out, then what good is compensation?

Where does it say about not using it on dyed hair, I use a semi permanant colour (dark brown) would that be okay?

We could do with more information and hairdressers opinion I think!

I so want this product though, thanks so much for pointing it out!

It says on the box not to use on bleached or highlighted hair - the chemicals probably interact. Not sure what happens if you colour your hair but use a dark colour, it could be a bit dodgy
  • Have you used it Lolly?

I used this a couple of weeks ago.

I used it on Dyed hair (Not newly Dyed, it was dyed about 3 weeks before)
The end result was brilliant, It is a bit of a pain having to:

    Wash and dry hair
    Put on the straightening Cream
    Rinse, dry and straighten hair
    Put on the neutralising cream
    Wash and condition hair
    Dry

But it was well worth it, My hair did feel quite fragile for a couple of days (you can't wash hair for 2 days afterwards), But when i washed and conditioned it (Using remaining conditioner in the box) it felt heap loads better. I haven't used my straighteners once since doing it.

PLEASE DO A HAIR STRAND TEST BEFORE USING
