Tesco's are a joke for TV's and customer service

I would like to complain about the fact that 090910 I spent over 2hours in March tesco superstore trying to return a faulty TV.

We went through the correct channels of contacting the tech guys which I have to say where very helpful and told us to return it for a replacement
when I spoke to customer service the ladies name was Gemma (and was very helpful), we were told by her that we would get a like for like which the March store wouldn’t give to us as they were more expensive and not the same make, but as stated by customer service we were to be replaced at no extra cost. But we were made to pay the extra money which to us was completely absurd

I also contact customer service before leaving my house to make sure that the March store would be able to replace the TV and was told they would and again very helpful.

When we arrive we were told that they no longer stock a 40” technika full HD TV and they would refund us, which of course buying the TV round the world cup it was on offer for £399.00, We wouldn’t except a refund as there wouldn’t be able to buy the same spec TV for that price.

It also didn’t help that the money we spent on this TV was from our wedding and for our new marital home, so to have it break in 3 months is not good enough.

After much discussion we finally were offered a 42” technika TV HD ready but we would have to pay £100 more for it! And it’s not even full HD so bigger screen but lower spec! Which I’m sure anyone can understand that for something that is not our fault is out of the question, and a insult!!

After more discussions we finally came to agree on splitting the difference and paying £50.00 for this TV which of course we did but were VERY unhappy about it.

Why should we have to pay for a replacement TV when it was not our fault the original one broke in the first place and also that you no longer stock a 40” technika TV

We are very dissatisfied with this! After being very loyal customers for years and always shopping with tesco and having home delivery every week.

I have emailed customer service and alos the ceo's of the comapny but to date i have had 1 email from customer service saying my email has been recieved and a email from the ceo office saying my email has been recieved and nothing more

they dont seem to be taking this seriously :(

You bought a cheap and nasty product, so it's not surprising that it didn't last long. Technika are just badged up for Tesco and can originate from anywhere, usually in Korea. They buy in job lots and when they do go wrong they're unlikely to have spares or service available. Ask for a full refund if no equivalent is available, then pay a little more and get a decent brand: Sony, Panasonic, LG etc.
And buy it at a place that knows what it is selling, like Richer Sounds. Tesco do not know the first thing about TV's.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

And LCDs are now crashing in price as newer technology takes hold! Agreed, good deals at RS...including 5 year warranty for just 10%.

You bought a TV from a shop that mostly sells eggs, milk, baked beans and bread - what did you expect? If you want a TV, you go to somewhere that specialises in selling tellies.

And as for the 42" TV, unless you're sitting closer than 4ft from it, you'd not notice the difference.
  • This is where Jody went wrong - money back is always the safest policy, especially when you should be looking at a wider range of Models:-

Yep, you paid over the odds, I'm surprised that is the price you paid, as regular brands are around that price, and now you still have a technika
I'm sure I have seen nice LG's for £450 with that size of screen.

    Bingo.

We purchased an LG HD TV from Richer Sounds in Watford in time for the Open Golf Championship this year. It cost over £800. When the first one went wrong I took it back, and Richer Sounds bent over backwards to help, couldn't have been nicer, and gave us a new replacement. Unfortunately that one went wrong too and back it went. The manager was brilliant and said he'd happily give us a full refund or we could try another new one. We took the new one and so far so good.

Don't complain too much, you were offered a full refund which is acceptable if a replacement isn't available.

Now that's really useful (not) - the OP lives somewhere near the Fenland Town of March; many, many miles from a Richer Sounds store with one in stock and they can't be ordered on the net for home delivery!

Which is also probably why he/she didn't go for a refund, as they would still have had to travel miles to find a comparable tv set.

The issue is not really about how good the brand is; it is more about how poor Tesco's Customer Service is in that they cannot even be bothered to ensure a direct replacement is actually available at the store where the OP was directed to.
