  • The only thing of truth in [#30] the above is that you [ 23n1th ] didn't bring linux up, gonzo127 did, and he usually does, his answer to any question is always the same Linux, Linux, linux.

Because the OP clearly wanted advice on how to format and put a new Windows operating system. Hence why they said Windows. They have said THEY HAVE THE DISCS. So why would anyone even need to mention Linux!?

No what is clearly stated is that the OP wanted to use the old laptop for internet browsing only. No mention of windows as a prerequisite. True they said they have all the discs however didn't mention they would consider anything else. And again as mentioned asked for advice, any advice.
    Stop twisting the OPs words.
Exactly where have I twisted anything the OP has said?

    "Hi,

Following my old laptop running slow, I have got a new desktop and transferred everything from the laptop to the desktop.

I now just want to use the laptop for browsing the internet, so I wanted to uninstall everything on it and then only reload the minimum that I need for browsing. I still have the various operating system disks that came with both computers.

Can anyone please offer any advice about the best and easiest way to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

Now unless you're going to be useful. Press the logout button and don't come back.
Now unless you're going to read what the OP posted and not what you wanted them to post, press the logout button and don't come back.

Thats up to gonzo127, my post is truthful as I've literally gone on what the OP said not putting words in their mouth as some here want to do.

Until the OP comes back and states for themselves that they wont consider linux then all advice is valid since the OP asked for any advice.

Exactly! If they didn't ask, don't mention!

    "Any Advice"

Oh are you actually being serious!? They wanted advice on how to use the discs to format and reinstall the operating system. Anyone with more than 2 brain cells can tell that.

As I said, twisting the words of the OP. You know exactly what they meant.

Hey, don't let facts get in the way of a good argument :p
  • C'mon 23n1th, you fell for gonzo127's usual trick of garnering Linux posters. He usually does this then watches from the sidelines to see what flack he causes.

Be honest Linux is 1% of the world and Windows 99%.

Any poster using Linux and needing advice on Linux would most certainly say so and state the flavour from the very outset .. ... .. agree ?
Any poster of the remaining 99% would never think to mention Windows .. .. .. agree ?
So by default anyone posting here is assumed to be using Windows unless they state otherwise .. .. agree ?

gonzo127's and others do this most weeks, it has been quiet for the last few, I've no doubt they will be back for a repeat performance and then back to whence they came for a laugh about the consternation caused.

Look what's left behind, Bean Counter's chance of even reading such a convoluted thread is reduced because :

    - Linux phanbhoys hijacked it, and ;
    - no one answered Bean Counter's question.

I've edited your post to fit the facts.

    True true.

gonzo127 is not my reason for posting even though he has a valid point (I don't know or care about his supposed past of bad advice).
Be honest Linux is 1% of the world and Windows 99%.
99% of all statistics are made up. Besides you haven't factored in OSX.
Any poster using Linux and needing advice on Linux would most certainly say so and state the flavour from the very outset .. ... .. agree ?
Maybe, maybe not, depending on the person.
Any poster of the remaining 99% would never think to mention Windows .. .. .. agree ?

Flawed logic... assumption really is the mother of all !!!!ups. Any advice means any advice no matter what you assume it to mean.
gonzo127's and others do this most weeks, it has been quiet for the last few, I've no doubt they will be back for a repeat performance and then back to whence they came for a laugh about the consternation caused.

Look what's happened again, you're reading what you want instead of what's actually there. Its been answered with linux solutions and windows solutions. Do I really need to quote them for you??

From what I can gather this is the turn of events:

    -Question asked, any advice welcome.
-Someone has the audacity to suggest linux as an alternative.
-Windows Phanbhoys hijack thread claiming linux phanbhoys have hijacked the thread, ignoring original request for any advice.
-Windows Phanbhoys claim thread unanswered because of linux phanbhoy hijackers ignoring the many answers.

I doubt that the OP would want to come back after reading you lot sounding off at each other!

If you do come back, OP, I'd go down the road and find a 12 year old kid from the nearest school - he'll do it for you for a coke and a bag of crisps.
