Rocky Road always seems to sell well, and minimal 'cooking' involved.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

Many years ago before the Macmillan coffee/tea mornings... At work we did an all day tea party for our local hospice in Luton. The cake which made us the MOST money was a deep, dark, rich fruit cake heavily drowned in rum we sold for I think £1 a slice and we made plenty of money just from that one cake.................0

How about Lorraine Pascale's Crouching Tiger Hidden Zebra Cake. Its chocolate and orange, easy to make and each slice looks impressive!#44 £168.41/£20230

Fantastic idea, I shall make boobie cakes this year too.

Made a huge carrot cake last year at an event I organised at work, using a recipe on BBC Good Food. Went down a treat.
A colleague made some rocky roads which were also very successful!
I also bought some sachets of cappuccino and latte in a pound shop and asked for donations of about 50p each. People were very grateful for an alternative to the brown powder work provides!0 -

I can vouch for this brownie recipe and it's really easy to make too. Instead of choc chips, I add chopped up milk chocolate and serve warm - gooey bits of melted chocolate hides inside as you take a bit, yum!

(oh, and I had no baking powder - substituting for bicarb seems to work just fine!)
I baked for work and found this list of traybakes - so easy to make in bulk, and they list how cheap the recipe is (on a scale) too which is handy

And on the subject of risque, if you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter...

I got an email through this morning with a bunch of cake sale recipes so thought of this thread. Just in case it's useful:

Hello this year I've signed up for the Macmillan Coffee Morning on the 27th of this month and I'm waiting for my info pack to arrive. But in the meantime I wondered if you good people have any tips, suggestions etc for a novice? I love baking and I'm quite good at it even if I do say so myself but wondered if you could suggest what goes down well? I've invited all my friends today and awaiting replies but I'm guessing around 18 people. I don't want to over cater (although kids and hubby will gladly polish off what doesn't get eaten within reason!) but neither do I want to run out. Advice on drinks as well other than coffee would be appreciated. Thanks xGrocery challenge June 2016

Coffee and walnut cake always went the fastest at my Macmillan mornings in the past, possibly because I ate half a big cake myself! It's a staple but not one that most people will make for themselves.
Next was fresh scones with strawberry jam and cream. Fairy cakes were always left behind unless they were chocolate and copiously iced with chocolate ganache or buttercream.
Premixed Buck's Fizz is cheap, low on alcohol and nice to offer one small glass at the start IMO.0
