Advantage Telecom offer - good or not??
Comments

Having seen many of these posts i cant help but think its a director or a jobsworth employee trying to generate interest and revenue for the scam company which they work. If you have half an ounce of common sence or decency you will stop trying to bleed dry, good honest businesses that are already struggling during these difficult times!
Believe me, compared to GoLocate Fuels, these guys are angels!0 -

And I suppose you think that kind of malpractice is funny?0 -
I was rung at the weekend by this company, purporting to be part of BT Openreach (the people who look after your lines, they said). The spiel was that they were trying to stop people from moving away from BT by offering half price line rental. I said I wasn't thinking of moving from BT so why was he ringing me. He said it was because so many people are leaving the are trying to pre-empt it. I told him he would be better off ringing the people who were leaving, not me. I said 'so you're not BT then?', he said 'no, Advantage Telecom'. So I said that I would be moving in essence then if I signed up with them. He said no because they were part of BT Openreach.
He then went on to tell me that he could see on his system that my line rental at the moment was £45 per quarter. I said it was less than this as I was on paperless billiing (my entire bill with calls on is usually between £45 and £50). He then said he could also see that I had a second line - a fax line - and told me the number. I don't have a second line or a fax number. He seemed to think I was a business customer, which I'm not.
I never sign up to anything over the phone especially after being cold called, and I too am signed up with TPS by the way, so I told him to send me some documentation so I could read it all before making my mind up. He said he would, but never asked for my address, or even my name. I'm still waiting .....
How can they get away with saying they are part of BT when they obviously aren't?0 -
We (my work) had a call from this company a couple of weeks ago and they definitely purported to be a part of BT Openreach. It was only by me asking specifically whether they were BT that I was informed that they weren't but were "working with BT"... Their deals sounded amazing, but I'll never switch to any company just on the strength of a phone call so I asked them to e-mail me further information. As yet I have received no e-mail!
It was only today looking back through my notepad for something else that I saw their name and was reminded of the call so I did a google search, found this thread and was extremly relieved that I kept my head and didn't just say anything that could be taken as "yes" on the phone!
I find it really awful that they are calling and pretending to be BT when they're clearly not. Do you think BT are aware of this practice? Do you think that I should call BT to bring it to their attention?
Anyway, glad I found this forum as it looks like it could be a very useful source of information.0 -
There are only working with BT in so far as they are a BT reseller and so supply a BT Wholesale product.
So technically speaking they are 'working with BT'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I used to work for these people...as a young girl in a sales environment, following working in a city sales role I was expecting alot of pressure, but not to be sworn at day in day out when I was doing well.
Have so many bad things to say about them - some of which I will refrain from telling as I may get sued!
They push people so much, often vulnerable people too.
As far as the actual product, we were told very little. We learnt all the bad points about BT though!!0 -
Still going as advantage telecom, low charges to start with then up without telling me. as for the "getout" fee, in very small print on the back of the welcome letter.
Do not use this company is my advice.0 -
I joined these a while ago and want to cancel - they were the only company i could find that would port my number from one home to another (although the number originated at the first address - moved to my mums ok via Virgin - but when i wanted to move back to the first address i couldn't find anyone to do it for me ) -- what am i to expect if i cancel - its a five year contract - can they enforce that - i must be 2 years in now0

Please beware of signing up!!! They cold called and led me into thinking they were BT. I was suffering from trauma after my daughter became seriously ill and I was informed that I had cancer. . I tried to cancel immediately by telephoning and writing to them on 3/1/2011 when I realised I had given them my bank details and before they could deduct any money from my account. They were rude and said if I did cancel they will want the cancellation fee £395.00 or they would cut off my line. They said I was in their contract for five years and I could not cancel. I pointed out that I had had no documents from them and had not given them permission. They said they would cut off my line now. I had informed them that I wanted to see the documents first before agreeing to anything. It was only after then, when I tried to cancel, that they immediately sent me the contract documents for 5 years. Now they keep adding on extra charges for admin work. security line charges etc etc. ON TOP OF THE HIGH COST OF THEIR TELEPHONE CHARGES. - IT IS TWO YEARS NOW SO WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE? Is this legal for them to do this? so please beware....0
