UPDATE - problems connecting to sky wireless broadband on laptop
Comments
-
HP Compaq presario CQ60 Windows Vista.
And no not so happy now I didn't know about the security bit.
But yes he changed me to channel 11 and WEP so both presumably were wrong/incompatible.0 -
Can you tell us please, exactly which laptop (make, model, operating system) the Sky script monkey told you was incompatible with their router?
Would you still be a happy bunny if you knew that your wireless network is not really secure? WEP encryption was effectively replaced by WPA/WPA2 many years ago now, as WEP is easily hacked.
You seem to be telling us that your connection problem was caused by the encryption type and the wireless channel setting?
He didn't say it was incompatible with their router just the security settings on the router. Actually now you say that though cogs are turning in my brain???
Would sky not use say security in all their routers? Because I had sky broadband in old house and was able to connect to that wirelessly through this laptop with no problem (I have a new broadband pack and router now)0 -
So how do I change back to WPA but make the wireless work please?0

Have a look at my post 8.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Did not work just converting back to WPA.
However...have updated the inbuilt network card (went from 2008 to 2009) and can now use WPA
THanks for all the help everyone has given me.0
