Evict a rogue Landlord - Shelter...

If your DH "laughs at the current" campaign then perhaps he is himself on the borderline of being a rogue LL? You and your DH perhaps need to be a little less sensitive- the campaign is not about "stigmatising LLs" , it's about recognising the ongoing problems created by those LLs who fail to meet their obligations under the law and obtaining enforcement action against their failings.
Read the first paragraph of Shelter's campaign page"While the majority of landlords are honest and responsible, unfortunately a small minority treat their tenants in a deliberately exploitative way, making their lives a misery."See also Artful's comment in the OPAswe hopefully see from posts here & other experiences, most landlords are responsible, decent, guys 'n gals trying to run an honest business...I hope we'd all want the crooks booted out...No-one is seeking to stigmatise LLs across the board.
Your phrase "those who suggest its a business" is interesting - how else would you define letting out property in exchange for money? A hobby? A charitable act? If property letting isn't working out for you and DH then perhaps you should consider selling up and running a florists shop or a tea room instead.
The thread is about rogue LLs and includes supportive posts by those who themselves are LLs .
LLs who want to whinge about LL problems ( or DHs LL problems) have the NLA/RLA/LLzone Forums in which to do so.
MSE is a consumer website and Ts are the consumers in the LL and T relationship.
People read the phrase "Rogue Landlords" and automatically assume the majority are at it which is not the case.
As for being close to the edge...........laughable in the extreme.
We are aware of rogue LL as end up with ex tenants from them who
do the comparison and wonder why they stayed with last one.
As for the pandering to T&C's is that an attempt at stifling any discussion other than that which meets your sanctimonious approval?0 -
Exactly. Well put.
It is a business. Simplicity itself. It might be a business running a loss, its a business non the less.
Only the profoundly uneducated would suggest otherwise.
Oh its a business BUT provide me examples of other businesses where customers refusing payment for a service can continue to enjoy that service with full legal support and a constraint on the business acting against non paying customer.
Just a couple of examples will do...0 -

Just a couple of examples will do...
Electricity supply
gas supply
water supply
All of these take some months to stop that customer "recieving goods" if they haven't paid. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Example # 1 - Water & water charges...
Water companies are very very very seriously constrained and are, as I understand it, almost entirely prevented from cutting off the supply of water. See
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/consumer_affairs/water_supply.htm
(Thank you CaB)Water arrears
Water companies cannot disconnect a domestic customer for water arrears. The company would have to take action in the county court for debt.
Cheers!

Indeed they are
( anecdotal alert)
I used to be a social worker back in the day and had a call once from thames water. resident hadn't paid for some years, and wanted to know from me, whether the resident was either elderly or disabled as in these cases they were prohibited by law in cutting off supply.
The council did not know who was at that address, so myself and others in the team had to basically go out door knocking until we got a result. Answer, yes the resident was elderly, and thus water supply had to be maintained, seemingly whether they paid or not. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Herewith info on Electricity & getting cut off (courtesy CaB)
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/gas_and_electricity/faq_index_gas_and_electricity/faq_gas_and_electricity_disconnection.htmCan my fuel supplier disconnect me?
This information applies to England, Wales and Scotland
If you don't pay your bill within 28 days from the date of the bill, you risk getting disconnected. Some suppliers may start to take action to disconnect you as early as ten working days from the date on your bill.
However, your fuel supplier can't cut you off without sending you a disconnection notice first.
In practice, it's unlikely you'll be disconnected, as long as you can pay for your fuel and agree to pay something off towards the arrears.
Cheers!

To help you, I'll requote comments from my previous post:tbs624 wrote:Read the first paragraph of Shelter's campaign page"While the majority of landlords are honest and responsible, unfortunately a small minority treat their tenants in a deliberately exploitative way, making their lives a misery."See also Artful's comment in the OPAs we hopefully see from posts here & other experiences, most landlords are responsible, decent, guys 'n gals trying to run an honest business...I hope we'd all want the crooks booted out...No-one is seeking to stigmatise LLs across the board.
That is not what any of the posts in the thread are saying and it is categorically not what the Shelter Campaign is saying
There's another helpful quote for you earlier in the post, from Westminster when during a discussion on Shelter's campaign a Tory MP tried to bring in a whinge on behalf of a particular amateur LLI do not dispute that there are occasionally problems on the other side, and I think we all agree on that. Such problems also need resolution, but they are completely and empirically outweighed by tenants' problems that confront us as MPs.0 -
