Has anyone had a look at the Dare2be skiwear sale I mentioned earlier?

Im expecting another order tomorrow, they are such good quality at bargain prices and if you look after them they last for years.

I'm Jo, I'm 34 and also in Glasgow. No kids and not a huge mortgage to pay. I work full time for a local authority and, although I've not been struggling financially, I've been rather horrified by my outgoings and apparent inability to save money. I'm trying to change because whose job is secure these days?

My freezer is officially stuffed full and I can't get anything else in there (not a big freezer but I live on my own) - even if the weather isn't too bad, it will help me manage my budget (and time), in the lead-up to Christmas.

I've been taking advantage of some cheaper prices and vouchers and have been sending Slankets to various family/friends to help them keep heating prices down. I've been feeling the cold myself the last few evenings and have been wearing my winter PJs and slippers - in the past I'd have been tempted to put the heating on. I've now got a stash of hot lemon drink and other cold remedies/essentials at home and in in my work desk drawer and bag, a mini torch for my bag (nights are drawing in) and warm socks and accessories for commuting in. I have a warm set of PJs/socks and slippers and a couple of essentials already packed in a bag and waiting to be taken to work and left. Toilet roll and other household essentials are on my list for my next holiday to-do list.

    Hi guys :)

Can I remind you all again that the best place to introduce yourselves is our "Getting to know you" sticky at the top of the Old Style listing.

Blue Elephant - I have thermostatic valves on the radiators and a universal thermostat. I leave the bathroom, kitchen and dining/living room rads on (ie everything downstairs in my house) and use the universal thermostat to set the temp I want - if I go out in the evening I just turn the universal thermostat down to about 12C then back up when I come home.

To be honest as long as your heating is on for a bit each day you are unlikely to have frozen/burst pipes in the heating - hasn't happened to me in over 20 years in the same house, with the same, now rather ancient, heating system :)

Mind you....I think that would be a bit dependant on what part of the country O.P. is in?? If 'tis further up North and colder temperatures - then the likelihood of burst pipes probably increases exponentially??

If you're trying to save your parents bills then I wouldn't put a single portion into the oven to cook. If it's something like mince or stew then as long as you can get it out of the container you've frozen it in,(might need to nuke it for 30 seconds or so in the microwave to do this) then you can easily just heat it up in a saucepan on top of the stove. I live alone and freeze masses of things as others have said, in single portions. I then just heat in a saucepan (add a bit of water, tomato juice, stock, whatever you have) while I'm changing out of work clothes and it's done. I'm too hungry when I get home to wait for an oven, in fact I can't think of the last time I used it.

I do however have a little table top oven which I use as a grill - very handy gadget.

    Dear Squeak,
Not wishing to be awkward ( that is I know usually a signal that some so and so is going to be a real pain.....), BUT
I have just looked a the thousands of people on the OS sticky thing - how is that the best place for this particular group of loo-roll obsessed, thermally challenged (in my case anyway) and slightly one track minded bunch of snow-shovel divas to get to know each other? At leaset here we are all following each other (only in a good 'stalker' way you understand) and can recognise usenames pretty quickly.
Please Miss Squeaky, dont make us go into the big boys playground, they all play so roughly....
Is this an etiquette thing? I would, if it is allowed, prefer to keep what happens in fight club - NO- I mean what happens here. here if you know what I mean

  • Re freezing/re-heating food, I found some useful info and links in the Quick Questions thread.

In the first post you'll find Freezing - Tips & Questions, if you scroll down to Queenie's post #18, there is a link to a document that gives loads of info and tips about what will freeze and what wouldn't be so good.

    Good luck with your prep.

The Getting to know you thread is an OLD STYLE thread. So is this one.

Next thing you know we'll have a Panasonic Breadmaker Owners Club Introductions thread, and an I Like Cheddar Cheese Best Introduction thread, and a Smoked Salmon Appreciation Society Introduction thread....

THEN how are you going to find a member's introduction?

The Getting to know you thread means that you have only one place to search to find out if a member has introduced themselves - and if you read our sticky on searching you'll find that process a lot easier to do :)
