Hi - can I ask, did your ebay draft excluders come in a brown satin-type material?? And were there two inner tubes in the pouch? If so, I think I ordered the same and I'm not overly happy. Are you going to cut draft excluders to length? Mine are 3inches too long but I can't see anywhere on the seller's info that it is safe to cut (ie, won't shred or fray). My email enquiry has not yet been answered :o

    Thanks!

i have the same kind of draught excluders (mine are jml got them at poundstretchers but they are the same) what i did was cut off the extra foam but NOT the 'satin' i tucked the extra satin underneath and slid that end in first so it's at the door hinges. some of it does stick out a wee bit from the door but it's not caused any problems at all, no one trips on it etc

Yes that's the ones, mine have a velcro end so I opened it and cut the foam and closed it. I'm not very happy with them either and I bought 5. Much narrower than I expected.

My main problem is that we have very old tongue and groove style doors which aren't very thick so they aren't very snug.

What items should I have in my car? Last year a few people were snowed in at my work and I was thinking the following would be useful to have ready either to get my car out or to make sure I am prepared to walk home . If you can think of other things or good suppliers please let me know:

    • First aid kit - already in the car
    • Folding snow shovel
    • Spare hat, scarf and gloves
    • Waterproof trousers
    • Water
    • Drink
    • Snack bar
    • Change for bus
    • Scraper
    • Blanket - foil/woolen or both?
I always have with me a fully charged mobile phone and in the winter I wear snow boots (proper not fashionable :rotfl:) and a waterproof ski jacket.

i have a sweeping brush in the car just for brushing snow off the roof and window. made it much easier last year with all the heavy snow to get it off. its a long handled one and its only used on the car and its fairly soft bristles so no reason to damage paint work. it stopped me getting soaked on many an occasion as i could stand back and not get showered on.
  • Just ordered myself some new boot slippers as I have worn mine everyday since I got them last year, still got a few months wear in them but I don't want them breaking when it's really cold. I love my slippers

Thank you. And thanks to Annie123 and Confuzzled for comments as well. I'm sure they'll do the job, they just weren't quite what I was expecting. Main thing is I can safely cut to size. Off I go with my knife...

FRUGAL - if you are there you mentioned a dehumidifier than was dry and kept things warm too??? Is this true or is it just a sort of by - product of the dryness?? Anyway what sort of dehumidifier have you got please??

I kept my dehumidifier in my (freezing) conservatory in the last house as it was icy cold and damp in there with appalling condensation - It felt noticeably warmer when it was on - I think the temp in there dropped to 12c and the dehumidfier was fine - I have moved now and have it in my built in wardrobe which has two outside walls and gets very cold. My clothes feel warm when I get them out when the dehumidifier is on and has completely stopped the mould problem that was in there.

I cannot remember the brand but I got it from B&Q and it was around £80 but I think it was well worth the money.

If you get one, look for one with a decent sized water tank as the amount of moisture extracted from the air is phenomenal! The water is good for houseplants and can even be used as ironing water and it won't scale up your iron!!!

Back from Asda and got my DD a 13.5 tog double duvet for £7.78. They also had 4.5 togs reduced to under £5 at ours if anyone goes for doubling up on duvets. No de-icer there or at the Poundstretcher though and my HB and B & M's still haven't had any in. No cheap fleece throws either.

Poundstretcher did have quite a few lined curtains reduced to £9.99 but not sure if that's nationwide. Could be worth a visit though if you're near one.

My rice cooker arrived yesterday so that's all ready to try out next week:)
