Would cardboard & paper not be a trip risk Splodger?

i think if she took my suggestion of using blue tack at strategic points on the cardboard that would keep them from slipping around... a package of blue tack is normally about a quid and each box wouldn't need all that much, newspapers could go under the boxes so that would keep everything in place i should think

Maybe. I thought I read that Splodger has disabilities so was concerned.

yeah i have a disablity - i have hms - so i dislocate quite a bit - but the bungalow is quite friendly - and i don't really think that i'll slip on paper - i do on the horrid floor tiles that are down at the mo though

i think i could try paper in the hall - and cardboard in the lounge - spare room doesn't need warm features and bedroom - well not much in the way of floor space in there - kitchen can stay as floor tiles - again only very small space
saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
    made loads last year

A word of warning - cheaper isn't always better.

I recently bought a dozen cans of cat food and another of dog food toward the Winter stock. Thought I'd try them with a can of each and both the cats and the dog had upset tums, so Ive gone back to their slightly more expensive tried and tested tins.

Another word of warning - never buy more than one of anything cheap or you'll be like me, left with a couple of dozen cans, which I'm even hesitant about giving to the animal sanctuaries in case the same happens there :(

my biggest hurdle i have to solve / tackle is the floors - because i have dogs and because of my med condition - i don't have carpets (can't afford anyway) so the floors are really cold in the winter

I know how you feel. We are renting and the house has carpets only on the stairs, the tiny bedroom and the attic conversion which my DD1 sleeps in. Her room is boiling hot in summer and freezing cold in winter. The rest of the floors just have bare floorboards, and we're not talking nice laminate either, just floorboards where they must have ripped up carpet and left it. There are gaps between the boards. Bloomin' freezing.

Splodger, what about putting some blankets down on the floor? You'd get a bit of warmth then and they can be washed when they get dirty.

That could be quite dangerous unless they had some kind of anti-slip matting underneath them. Also with dogs around I couldn't see them staying flat and in one place for long!

Splodger how would bubble wrap work on your floors? Not sure how expensive it is but you could see if you can get some big sheets on freecycle?

We have been to see some friends' lost insulation and it was great - space age silver stuff - it is quite expensive but our loft gets so cold and so dirty as the dirt comes through the boarded rafters. Friend said it was really easy to put up in a weekend so will get DH to price it up this week and if possible order it and get it done asap.

Hi Toots hope you are coping ok, when are you due home? Is your new home warmer than your old one?

    Hello.

Ive kinda got a bit lost on here...not quite sure what I need to do anymore.
Got thermal linings on curtains. Put foil things behind radiator. just this second had carpet fitted in hall. So bit stuck. Do I need bubble wrap (what for). Im worried we are in for a bad winter and just dont want to be cold. HELP!!!

We live in a small one bed modern flat (just over years old).

LOL, don't get yerself all twisted up, it all doesn't have to be done a week last wednesday or indeed at al if you don't want to. The general idea is to make some preparation to make winter a little less costly and a bit more comfortable.

I find an electric blanket and some fleecy throws to cuddle under when reading or watching tv makes it comfy for me.
But each according to their means and needs. Easy does it!
  • evening all - cold here tonight so all wrapped up with cozy blanket watching Mrs Brown Boys -fanbloodytastic! always end up with sore cheeks, so must get a stash of good dvd' in for the miserable nights.
tomorrow will be making more beetroot chutney, and look for a roller blind for the kitchen, and have a patchwork square to quilt at some point this weekend.
